4 Gig limit

I just saw another post dealing with this, saying that under windows 8 this isn't a limitation, and suggesting we "upgrade" to windows 8. Uh, have you seen the market share numbers for windows 8? Have any idea how many people are clamoring to run out and get that os? Yeah, uh, no-one. Can we perhaps upgrade whatever engine you're using on the win7 version so it works to over 4 gig files?

Unfortunately removing that limitation is very difficult. It's an inherent limitation in the Microsoft's video framework we are using. We are investigating switching to a different framework, but that is many man-months of work, so this won't happen anytime soon, if at all.

I didn't mean to insult anyone by suggesting to upgrade to Windows 8 (among several suggestions). But if you were thinking about upgrading already, this might be one more reason to make the switch.

Oh, I didn't take it as an insult at all, more as a joke. :) Thanks for setting the expectation properly though, I'd rather have an honest answer I don't like, than a half truth I do. :)

You could always buy a Mac instead. :)

Yeah, I've got several 20+ Gb exported VIRB movies on my Mac Pro.

I do believe that's the first time I've ever seen "You could buy a mac" as a proposed solution to a compatibility problem. ;)

Well, it's hard to argue with that point. :)

Linux is certainly a cure for the Windows virus, but unfortunately, there's no VIRB Edit for Linux.
