When is VIRB EDIT 2.5.0 being released?

It has been over a month since 2.4.0 has been released and there have been many bugs reported and acknowledged. Some of these bugs affect the basic usability of this system.

When is 2.5.0 being released? Is there a regular release cycle for versions? Is there a centralized bug tracking system that would help prevent duplicate issues from being reported?

Thanks!

It will be released when it's ready. That's all I am permitted to say, unfortunately.

You can report bugs here on the forums, or via email at [email protected].

Not much to worry about with the Virb Edit, The main Issue is with the Firm ware. That is where the problems are. And they dont have a section on that. VERY Disappointed in this camera now. I will not recommend it to any one.

Come on, you can't give more than that? Is it even being worked on? Is it planned for this year? This quarter?

I'd like to have some assurance that it is a high priority for Garmin to fix the bugs in their product that many of us have now dished out a bit of money for. I have two but can't use them as was advertised because of the bugs.

For over a month I've seen responses saying "that will be fixed in the next version" but you won't tell us when that may be? I can be patient but not patient enough to be OK with such a vague response that has no substance.

Please let the person that told you that you can't tell anything to anyone about a release cycle timeline know that their decision is one that will alienate customers rather than working to keep the customers happy and the Garmin brand a competitive product in the action cam market segment.

I think the people at Garmin have been doing a pretty good job trying to deal with the 99.9% of negative posts with issues especially on this forum.

We would all rather the release be correct than rushed with other issues.

The software has come a LONG way since its release in the fall. Keep up the good work Virb Team:D

A "pretty good job" I agree with. But as someone in the IT industry, it is very reasonable to have timelines established. I've been surprised that with every bug that has been confirmed the response has been "we will fix that the next version". If that is taken literally, the next version will be a LONG ways off because bugs will keep coming in that will need to be fixed. Don't keep moving the goal posts.

And yes, I also agree that the forum is where people come primarily to discuss issues. If everything worked flawlessly, I would come here and make a post of praise and perhaps any suggestions/requests for future releases and that would be it. But since people are finding bugs, they can either call Garmin and be directed to the forums by their tech support or they can come to the forums to discuss issues themselves.

Finally, the version we are on is 2.4.0. The ".0" is available to be incremented by a 'quick fix' if they chose to get a quick win under their belts for minor issues that are easy to fix. For example, in version 2.3.0, the speed function worked fine. But in 2.4.0, someone forgot to speed up the GPS log with the video. OOPS! Easy fix for a major function. But it is being held up by who knows how many other bugs that are being addressed too!

Also, it would be much better if they kept a read only thread that listed all of the bugs that have been verified and will be addressed. And even better, break them down to the revision that they are slated to be fixed in! This is a typical development life cycle. It makes releases much more manageable. It also sets the customer's expectations early on and reduces redundant issues being reported over and over again.

But again, great job so far dev team! Just don't falter now! :)

    Agree.

Also can you add sub forums. We have 11 pages of threads. Maybe a couple sub forums: one for issues/bugs, one for using the features already in virb edit, like tips and tricks as people learn the new features and can help other explore them. This could help the forum become more beneficial to develop user knowledge and maximizing the the features.

Very little chance of that, they can't even be bothered to create a Virb forum.

VIRB Edit is definitely high on the priority list, and we are planning to keep the releases coming. Work is ongoing for both 2.5 and 2.6.

We are also still pushing for a VIRB forum.

We'll think about it. What I would definitely like to do is have more FAQ/Tips&Tricks type sticky post. I just haven't gotten around to making that happen yet.
  • Almost 2 months and ZERO BUG FIXES to the existing Virb Edit software.

I just imported a clip and it won't let me add any overlays! This software is buggy as a piece of cow dung on a hot summer day!!

    Comeon Garmin! Give us something!!!

so is Microsoft software and you are lucky if they release a patch or an update unless its security related once every 12 months...just be thankful that one of Virb Edit's developers is willing to even appear here on this board.

Virb Edit 2.5.0 will be released when it's ready and not because of your impatience.
