Elevation Correction

Hi Forum,
I have a Virb Elite and a Garmin Edge 810. I use elevation a lot on my video's and I choose to import and align the 810 .fit data into my video in Virb Edit.

But often when I ride near water I see my elevation is often -10 or -12m below sea level. Note I am at sea level as I live near the ocean. If I use the Elite data, my elevation is often around 20-30+.

If Garmin Connect has elevation correction and Strava has something similar, what can I do for my Virb elevation?

If I export the .fit file from Garmin Connect instead of getting it straight off the device, will it include corrected data?
..
  • I don't know about the new Garmin Connect, but the old one didn't export .fit files, only .gcx and .tcx. But anyway, I used to do this a lot when I was unsatisfied with the elevation data from my old Edge 705. Upload the track, turn on elevation correction, export the track, and the corrected elevation data is in the .gpx/.tcx that you get. I don't know whether it still works that way, since I haven't done it in a long time. Be aware that the process might strip out data that you may want (for example, temperature).

Good point and yes, there is no .fit export from Garmin Connect. Strava only exports gpx too. Might give it a go. For some of my videos, all I show is gradient and elevation.
