Why don't my photos have GPS geotagging info?

I am rather surprised and disappointed to find out that photos taken on the VIRB Elite do not have GPS location included in the metadata.

What is the route to make this point to Garmin? I can't believe a GPS enabled camera doesn't geotag the photos!

Or am I missing a setting here?

Sigh,

Jeff

    Hello again PA3FBO.
Have the full path tracklog? Does the azimuth of the GPS path is the same as the azimuth of the camera?
    See the example.

When the camera records video, it also creates a track in a .GPX file.
When the camera is ON, it greates a track in a .FIT file. (at this point only Basecamp Beta can access this)
When accessing the VIRB Elite with Basecamp Beta gives the location of the pictures on the map.
However I have only seen the location, not the direction it is taken in.
As far as I know the angle of the camera related to the direction of travell is not recorded.
It will be an interesting test to see what the Bearing Gauge tells us when the camera is pointing sideways.

Today I looked what would happen when I rotated the camera while recording.
When I make a video the Gauge follows the direction of the path.
So when pointing the camera sideways, the Gauge tells you the bearing in front of you and is 90 degrees off your view.
Maybe the information is there (in FIT file or so) but it does not show.

Maybe one of the developers knows?

To my knowledge that information is not recorded.

is a VIRB Elite a good choice for my purposes?

    Hello,

Soon I am going to start fieldwork in Venezuela and the Caribbean region and I will be visiting some bird nest-sites of which I need to record position, elevation and facing cardinal point among other things.
I am thinking about buying a VIRB Elite in order to have both images, videos and GPS data; is that a good choice? How easy it is to get these informations with this device? I am sure I will be taking pictures of every site I visit but I was wondering if extracting metadata from them is the only way to get coordinates and other spatial data.

thanks a lot for your help
