Virb Edit - There was an error playing the video

That's about all I know... Just got the camera today, and when I try to play a video through Virb Edit, it just says "There was an error playing the video"
I have updated the camera firmware and Virb Edit software to the latest versions...

Is there any easy fix for this, or is it just a random bug?
Thank you!

*UPDATE* Fixed! Updated my graphics card, and now Virb Edit plays videos just fine.

It's a bug and they are working on it.
If I exit VIRB Edit and restart it, the bug is gone most of the times.
When I get the error, most of the time VIRB Edit is in fullscreen mode.

    What computer do you have?

Desktop, laptop? Make and model, if possible.

Which operating system are you running?

Which graphics card do you have?
  • Have the same problem. Have never been able to play or Edit a vid via VIRB Edit!
There are workarounds using other programs, but feel that I spent $400 (plus accessories) on a paperweight :o/

What kind of computer and graphics card are you using?

Did you make sure to update your graphics card driver?
  • Using a laptop, can't upgrade! Apparently the built in graphics card is sub-standard.
    :(

Are you sure that you can't update your graphics card driver? Usually you can get updates via the laptop's manufacturer.

    I'm having the same issue:
    I have a Corei7 4770k
a Asus Maximus VI Formula motherboard ROG
    32GB o RAM
    and 1 Nvidia GForce 780Ti.
    and I can't play vídeos ??
    REALLY ?
Oh yeah, it's all up to date drivers...
  • I have the same fault when playing video. The fault came after I updatet my driver for my amd 6950 graphic Card. I use Windows 7.
The driver is catalyst 13.12. If I roll back the driver there are no problems.

I hope Garmin will fix it in the next update. Or if it a AMD problem they will take care of it.

I am having the same problem ... just downloaded a bunch of video from my Virb Elite, but none of them will play; they all generate the "There was an error playing the video" message which contains absolutely no useful information. Naturally the .mp4 files play just fine with Windows Media Player. The last time I used Virb Edit it worked, but that was a couple of months ago.

    Windows 7 64-bit
    Virb Edit 2.4.0.0
AMD Radeon HD 6900 running driver 13.251.0.0 (the LATEST from AMD)

Do you have any evidence that this is actually a bug in the driver? Since the error message is completely content-free it's hard to understand how you could possibly know that....

Extremely disappointing. I spent the whole day bragging about how cool the Virb was, and when I get home to process the video ... total failure. Needs a fix ASAP.

Are there download links for previous versions of Virb Edit? It used to work just fine.

  • I have no evidence, but if you want help you can choose to listen or you can choose to keep reading "There was an error play..."

There is a problem between the new Virb edit driver and the new AMD catalyst driver. The problem is from AMD driver ver13.12 and until now. I have not checket all of them.

If you install an older AMD driver you can use det Virb edit.

Unfurtunately the older drivers can give you problem with other software...lige BF4, so you need to shift between drivers. It is not that big a deal....
