Power Meyer / cadence data not appearing in Virb edit

Hi all

I have a Garmin Elite connected to a Stages power mater and to a Garmin cadence / speed sensor. The cadence magnet for the speed / cadence sensor has been removed as cadence is supplied by the stages meter. This works fine on my Garmin 810.

In virb edit no power or cadence data appears. Heart rate / speed / elevation all fine.

Any work around suggestions?

This must be about the 10th bug or issue I've had with the camera. It REALLY does not feel like a finished tested product at all.
  • VIRB is dropping sensor data (cadence and heart rate)

Did you try adding the FIT file from your Edge 500 to your clip? Create a video with a clip, then go to the Edit tab and choose 'Replace', then find the FIT file. Now you should see cadence and power from the FIT file on your video.

I have the same problem. The Virb started to show the cadence and heart rate information in the overlay but the two data dropped after a few minutes. The speed information last through out the video. While this is happening to other people, there seems to suggest a bugs in the firmware. What you suggested will work but the reason to buy Virb is to be able to have the data sync up correctly without the hassle to do manual importing. Please get it fix soon. Thx.:confused:

what firmware version have you got running on your Virb? and have you tried a Master Reset? I was having similar issue(s) not that long ago and after upgrading to the latest firmware AND doing a Master Reset post upgrade the issue(s) disappeared.

    cheers

Thx Mike, I will check tonight when I get home. But the weird thing is I took 4 videos yesterday. The first 3 pickup the cadence and hear rate information and display them on the overlay. But on the last one that it started to show the cadence & heart rate information for the first 10 mins then the two piece of information do not show up anymore. I just updated the VIRB software and my garmin express do not suggest there is any new firmware update so I assume mine is up to date.

just as a matter of curiosity here - would you be able to attach the .fit file(s) that cover the 4 videos you took yesterday? I would like to check, using the Fit File Repair Tool, whether the cadence and heart rate has actually been recorded or not.

You can find the folder containing all the .fit files here - NOTE it is a hidden folder so you will have to make sure you have 'hidden files and folders' set to display

    C:\Users\<name>\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\VIRB Edit\Database\2\FIT\<folder>\

    cheers

Hi Mike, I've extracted those .fit files on 21 Sep 2014 in the above directory for your information. Hope this help to diagnose the problem.

I've opened 2014-09-21-10-59-17.fit in Basecamp. There it shows heartrate and cadence, it doesn't have a colomn for power.

    hi BostonXO,

First thing is that the current firmware version for Virb is 3.80, although I note that you are in Hong Kong so I'm unsure if there is an Asia specific firmware for the Virb like there is for some Edge units.
If you haven't already got the Garmin Web Updater installed, then install it, attach your Virb to your computer and then run the Updater software. Point to note - IF there is a firmware update available and after it is installed and your Virb is powered back up then make sure you perform a Master Reset. I didn't after one of my firmware updates and I had no end of issues with sensor connections and dropouts until I performed a Master Reset.

Now to the .fit files - the applicable file is the 2014-09-21-10-59-17.fit insofar as that covers your entire ride. The other files are from any editing of your recording that you have done from within Virb Edit. As PA3FBO has said, there is heart rate and cadence data contained from the start to the end of the file although I note that there is a period of no cadence data and only sporadic heart rate data from 10:06am until 10:20am - I am assuming that you stopped somewhere over that time frame as your distance didn't increase.

One thing that the Fit File Repair Tool did pick up was that you had a 13 second jump into the past when you started recording... what effect that might have on your editing I am unsure but I have corrected it. Rename the original .fit file to something like 2014-09-21-10-59-17_orig.fit and then paste this 'fixed file' into the same folder. You will have to restart Virb Edit and restart your editing again and see if that changes anything.

Speaking of Virb Edit, are you running the latest version - 2.70? If you aren't then I would highly recommend that you give the latest version a try and see if that fixes the issue you are having. If however you already are then it's back to the drawing board on what the issue might be.

*EDIT* just re-read your original post and see that you are already running VE2.70.

    Cheers

I've tested VIRB Edit 2.7.0 with another "known good" FIT file.
The power gauge does work in 2.7.0 so I assume Power is missing in your FIT.
