Virb edit not importing GPS after clips deleted

You could try to delete it in VIRB Edit and import again.

Or locate the GPX file on the VIRB (the timestamp should help you find locate the correct one) and add that one manually. (With 'Add GPS' on the edit page.)

We are looking into the import issues as well.

Thanks for the reply. Can you tell me what it's actually doing when it's importing. Is it simply copying the file or is it merging the GPS / sensor data into the file. If it does not merge it where does this data go?

If I import clips, then move them, then import them again will the meta data still be available?

I don't think so.
When Edit imports the clips, it also puts it GPS info in it's database, in RawMovies.
C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\VIRB Edit\Database\2\RawMovies (Win7 x64)
Each directory (looks like 0c1df15c-5a13-4c70-a125-2fabfabbe746) contains a thumbnail, that may help you identify the clip.
It also contains a video.xml if opened in notepad you can read where Edit expects to find the clip.
When you move your clips, you can try to edit these files BUT I don't know what happens, I haven't tried it.
When you move clips, the information Edit has is not updated and GPS data in overlays may fail.
However Edit also imports .FIT data and stores it in
C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\VIRB Edit\Database\2\FIT
Edit might find the appropiate .FIT here and will add the GPS data anyway.

Another aspect of the system that does not seem well thought out. I generate about 6 3.5 GB files a day cycling. It's going to be very hard to find the one I want if they all stay in the one import folder. You need to be able to move this stuff around. What if you get a new PC? It's unlikely that this hidden folder will get backed up.

I would like it to work with projects, having everything of that project in one directory, easy to move around, easy to throw away.
BUT I also don't like BaseCamp for the same reasons.
With MapSource I can have the GPS data, Excel sheets photo's PDF's and whatever in the same directory, can't do that with BC.

I've never used Basecamp or mapsource but yes it should work with projects. I store everything on my network but like this I can only access / edit any of my clips from the machine that I import from.

The fact that it is free is no excuse at all. It is the software that is provided to make my £300+ work as advertised. The Virb does nothing new that I couldn't do with my Garmin 810 and Contour. The idea with the Virn was to make everything easy, simple and take less time. At the moment everything is a struggle, barely works and has multiple bugs that you have to work around.

I see the problem......it is that funny symbol in front of the price (£). If you didn't have that, it may work better. :rolleyes:

And the software is not free....it is part of the Virb package. It was the single most important feature that made me buy my Virb Elite. So I'm with you that the expectations for it to work are high. It is too bad that Garmin released the hardware before the software was better developed and tested and unfortunately, this has become more common in electronics....but it doesn't make it right!

But it is good to see the devs are working with the community to get all the issues resolved. Now we just have to keep providing feedback on what works and what doesn't as we act and their beta testers and help them sort everything out.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by talking about the funny symbol - you seem to be implying that I am being unreasonable in expecting it to work because it cost a relatively large amount of money, but then the rest of your post seems to agree with me.

Yes, it is good that they are working with the community and updates do seem to be appearing. I do not like paying for the privileged of being a tester though.

As I said before I bought the virb for the ease of use - which is severely lacking at the moment.
