Virb Edit can't render if source video started recording with external audio cable

I've had a strange issue where if I use video that was recorded from the beginning with the external audio cable connected, Virb Edit will fail with a 'video error' when you try to produce a movie. It does not matter where the clip is in the video or what the audio source is - cockpit connector, external mic or just the connector cable itself. In edit mode, there is no indication of a problem: you can edit, move and playback everything with no problem, but when you select export or post to FB, and the rendering process begins, you get an error pop-up as soon as the process hits the offending video clip.

Now, if I start the recording without the cable out and THEN plug the external connector in AFTER the recording starts, it works fine (a real pain if you're trying to set up multiple shots). This is true even if you trim the first part of the video off when you edit the clip.

Has anyone else seen this problem?

Don't have an audiocable so can't test it.
But with clips from other sources the audio level has to be set to 0, otherwise VE will not export.
It's not much use to you, but could you try setting the audio level to 0 and see if VE will export.
This will provide the developers some clues whether the problem lies in the same direction.

Thanks for reporting this issue and I apologize for the trouble.

I am afraid I don't have the necessary cable laying around to test this. So the fastest way would probably be if you could make one of those videos available somewhere. Dropbox might be a good way. Send me the link via PM and I'll look into it.

Ran into same issue, I'll try your solution about plugging in the microphone jack after I've started recording.

I just tried setting the audio level to zero per your suggestion and now I'm able to export the video.

I've seen examples where setting the audio level to 0 allows the audio to render though that defeats the purpose of using an external audio connector to capture cockpit communications.

    Here are two sample videos:
    This one works: https://www.dropbox.com/sc/ibnheiie3u03v1g/vkY2VzH1bS
This one does not work: https://www.dropbox.com/sc/rfp6f6rh2qtbyam/6x_veSByrN

I'm using the latest version of Virb Edit and the latest Virb Elite software with Windows 7 on a Gateway AMD quad core PC.
I'd be very interested if anyone has different results.

Thanks for the sample file. I'll take a look at the WORKS NO.mp4 file. With a bit of luck, we've already fixed that in 2.4, if not, hopefully we will get it fixed in 2.5.

Well, that was a quick test. :)

Your video fails to export for me with 2.3.2, but it works with our internal 2.4 build (with audio). So I am very optimistic that we have indeed fixed this already.

2.4 will be released soon. (That's as concrete as I am allowed to be.)

Awesome news! Looking forward to the next release.
And thanks for the quick attention :)
