GoPro video in Virb Edit no good at all?

Please forgive me, I have looked far and wide for a solution prior to posting this.

I have a GoPro file converted from .mov to .mp4 and a .gpx file recorded off a Garmin Forerunner 220.

With Virb Edit, when I locate the movie file by browsing for other, it locates the file (I saved it to the desktop), lets me select it and the says something like "yada yada yada 0/1 files imported from library" (i am away from the PC at the moment so can't confirm the error exact message). I also tried to select a GPX file in the edit section and the "Add GPS Data" button didn't do anything. Lots of clicking of the mouse, nothing happens (I was expecting also some sort of browse function to locate a .gpx file.

Yes, I have read the comments by the Garmin Developer that Garmin are less concerned with files not recorded by the Garmin Virb. Doesn't mean I shouldn't try.

Is it the movie file format that is giving me grief or is something else going on?

Video is approx 450mg in size.

Forgot to say, thanks for the effort you went to there, it is really appreciated.
  • Last night I re-exported my 2 hour movie from PowerDirector as an .MP4 file @ 1080p 30fps with no audio tracks. The resulting video file (~13 GB) was still not importable by Virb Edit. I was going to generate a 720p file from the same source but I see that this would only save me 1 GB in file size so I didn't bother. I'm now generating a 480p file (~5 GB) to see if that will import into Virb Edit. If not, then obviously something else is the issue.

I just wish that Virb Edit would give some sort of meaningful feedback when import of a video file fails rather than just reporting "0/1 files imported".

I realise that I can just import the smaller segment videos and put the overlays on them but then I won't get the full GPS track which is all that I really want.

That should work with 2.4 if all goes according to plan. So you will be able to import 3 videos, attach the same gpx/fit file to each and get the full track.
  • Followup: The video exported at 480p 30 also wouldn't import into Virb Edit. It's approximately 5 GB leading me to believe that there is some other issue with the file as generated by PowerDirector.

At this point, I guess I'll wait for the 2.4 release and work with the individual files.

That could be, in the past I also had some issues with importing PDP MP4's.
I have also tried to import a 13GB MP4 made with PDP into VIRB Edit.
    Here it also didn't work.
At the moment I'm trying to convert it with Any Video Converter to .MP4 to see if that will work.
5min .MOV files that were converted to .MP4 with this program were imported without problems.

Short files with 10 minutes is ok but I wasn't able to import one long file with 1 hour of footage.

What is the maximum file size to import videos in Virbedit?

There is no official limit. What kind of error do you see?

When I select a larger file from the browse it says "Library Updated 0/1.

With 4GB files or less I was able to import, I will try with 5GB+ files and post results later.

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but I suspect I've suddenly been hit with this issue. I'm taking my shaky source footage and stabilising in FFMPEG (vid.stab filter) and then importing to VIRB edit. So no joining of files etc, no change in format.

My ride got split into 6 files, and after processing, files 2, 3 and 4 went over 5GB. Files 1, 5 and 6 were below this. Guess which ones imported and which ones didn't?

I think VIRB Edit does indeed have a 4GB file limit - probably due to some 32-bit code in it somewhere.

    This is with version 2.9.2.0

Is there any error log? I can't find one in %appdata%\Garmin\VIRB Edit\ subfolders. The program is unhelpful ("Library updated 0/1" is the only feedback you get (or library updated 3/6 in my case)
