GoPro video in Virb Edit no good at all?

Please forgive me, I have looked far and wide for a solution prior to posting this.

I have a GoPro file converted from .mov to .mp4 and a .gpx file recorded off a Garmin Forerunner 220.

With Virb Edit, when I locate the movie file by browsing for other, it locates the file (I saved it to the desktop), lets me select it and the says something like "yada yada yada 0/1 files imported from library" (i am away from the PC at the moment so can't confirm the error exact message). I also tried to select a GPX file in the edit section and the "Add GPS Data" button didn't do anything. Lots of clicking of the mouse, nothing happens (I was expecting also some sort of browse function to locate a .gpx file.

Yes, I have read the comments by the Garmin Developer that Garmin are less concerned with files not recorded by the Garmin Virb. Doesn't mean I shouldn't try.

Is it the movie file format that is giving me grief or is something else going on?

Video is approx 450mg in size.
