Virb Edit Video Display Problem

Hi,

have two problems with my Virb Edit 2.3.2.0. See picture attached.

1. Partly black screen on clip preview window. Exported video works perfect. (Win 8, GEFORCE GTX 650, latest Driver)
2. Height Information not available at start of a clip. After a few seconds the height info is available. Same on exported video.

Any ideas?

Best regards

    Hi Patrick,

    1. Does this only happen on the edit page? Can you play back the videos in the Clip Library or from the Video Gallery? This is a VIRB-recorded video, correct?
    2. This almost looks like the GPS data does not have elevation at the beginning of the video. Can you attach the GPX file for that first clip?
  • Thanks for the fast Response:

    1. Yes I can play back, but the screen stays partly black the whole clip. In all other programs like VLC the clips work perfect. That happens on all Clips, also without overlays. And yes, it's a Virb Elite recorded Video.
Sometimes it works for a short time, when I resize the virb edit program window.

    2. You are right. I checked the gpx file. Height is missing in GPX file. The first 20-30 sec. of every gpx file are without height Information. So this point should be solved. I have to test, why this information is missing in the gpx file.

Thanks for your help and best regards
    Patrick

That just leaves the playback issue. That one might be a tough nut to crack.

I'll check back with one the engineers who understands the playback code a lot better than I do and see if he has an idea how to fix this, or at least how to find out what's going on.
  • Thanks for your answer. So I will wait for the Virb edit updates.

Another point I've found in my video is concerning track overlay. In the videogallery the whole track of all clips is shown. But in the exported Video as in the edit window only the track of the single Clip is shown. I've attached two pics to explain.

    Any ideas?

    Best regards Patrick

This seems very familiar to me. When starting a video a normal Picture flashes up before going to this mode.

I'll look into that. We should be able to fix that in 2.4.

I'm having the same issue, however, when loading VIRB Edit onto two other machines, instead of the split-up screen screwiness, both of the others give a Runtime error and close. I am supremely bent out of shape as this basically leaves no use for my VIRB. I will just use my GoPro Hero3 since you can't get the software to run on two other machines and on your important machine, the video displays badly/split screen and the telemetry is not there. Anyone else seeing the Runtime issue on Win 8? This is a ridiculous amount of software errors across multiple platforms for a Garmin product.

That you have problems is not a good thing and it can be frustrating, BUT VIRB Edit is doing OK on a lot of other PC's.
You can argue that they have made the program available to the public too soon.
But that would mean that they had to test it for all PC and Mac configurations with all different motherboards, processors, graphic cards and operating systems.
While testing, and that would take lots and lots of time, noone could use the program.
Besides it is a FREE program and if you are willing to pay there are other options, even programs that will put overlays with gauges to your video.
