VIRB Edit Software Version 2.3.2 Released

Yay - upload to YouTube works now! Export also worked. The file was only 340 Mb but this was failing for me before 2.3.2.

I successfully exported a second video; 760 Mb this time. Took about an hour to export, but it worked!

I'm not going to upload that one to YouTube as my connection is so slow that even if it is successful, it'll take hours to do it.

It's strange though - uploads to VIMEO take a fraction of the time for the same files.

Are you still talking just about the temperature? VIRB Edit cannot display what the device doesn't write out, unfortunately.

Export is certainly not a speedy process. We will try to improve things there as well, but out main concern right now is to make sure users can export successfully.

YouTube certainly seems a bit sluggish at times.

Hence my feeling it is the firmware. Tried to remove it, no joy.

As you say, the important part is reliability. I don't mind walking away and doing something else for a while if I'm reasonably sure it'll work, and I'll get something out of the process.

Good! Exported a 16 minute 2GB (source filesize) video file with one of the preset overlays, no issues with the export process.


However there are some strange bugs found:

1. Fullscreen playback

When playing any type of video listed in the gallery (both "created" gallery videos and those imported into the clip library), clicking to expand to full screen causes it to stop playing, and after a few seconds, the video image greys with a message

"There was an error playing the video"

It seems to happen with all videos, anywhere in the video (I've successfully navigated to different times in the default non-fullscreen view).
I can close the playback popup and continue as normal with choosing another video to play.


2. Exported vid gauges does not match those played back within Virb Edit

I noticed this when playing back the newly exported video.
The g-force and reported speeds looked strange. Checking back on the playback within Virb Edit where the g-forces and speed reflect what was happening, there are certainly discrepancies in the exported video.

I managed to run both the virb edit playback and exported video alongside in sync (as close to the frame as I could manage!), and grabbed a screenshot:

The speeds were sometimes off by 3-4 kph, plus the G-forces in the exported video merely looked like they were derived from the GPS speed (or not) - or the lat+acceleration dot goes around in a complete and smooth circle when the boat is obviously not rocking around in a circle, and otherwise doesn't reflect the actual g-force data.




So the file export issue has been resolved, but there are exporting issues with the overlay data.

Hats off to FALAGAR and his team on giving us a version of Virb Edit that now consistently and reliably allows us to import, edit and customise and best of all, allows us to export without failure, footage shot with the Virb cams. Well done sir, the only way from here is up and onwards to more improvements with Virb Edit!
