What's new

  • Added customizable gauges. You can now add, move and delete gauges.
  • Added a lot more gauges, temperature is now supported.
  • Added ability to save and reuse custom gauges.
  • Added ability to easily import tracks from attached Garmin mass storage devices.
  • Widened range for clip playback speed (from 0.125x to 8x, up from 0.25x to 2x).
  • Fixed some errant behavior for g-force gauges.
  • Fixed export for pace gauges.
  • Fixed some more export issues.
  • Fixed an issue where file or track import was not working.
  • Fixed an issue where settings changes where not remembered after upgrading VIRB Edit.

Known Issues

  • A few strings have not been localized into non-English languages. They will be in 2.4.
  • Exporting a video when the NONE template is selected does not work. Will be fixed in a 2.3.x maintenance release very soon.
  • There are still some export issues. We are planning to address more of them in 2.3.x as well.
  • Export quality is still not as good as we'd like. 2.3.x should improve things here as well.

Please send us feedback

Please let us know if you encounter any issues. If there are any crashes, please send in the error reports, this really helps us out and we'll make sure to fix them.

Screenshots

Gauges for location, temperature, date/time and even a logo (if you like). Free placement and free choice of what you'd like to include.

Easier import of tracks directly from the device.
  • As a Windows developer, I am obviously a bit biased, but just out of curiosity, where do you feel the Mac GUI is nicer? Other than the look of the buttons, the position of the settings and the title bar, the apps look pretty much the same.

And I personally prefer the video playback (with the map integrated, and not tucked to the side) on the Windows version.

I sure wish we could use the Mac's playback and export library on Windows though...

If you notice anything major that's different between the platforms, please let us know. We do strive for parity.

Would have expected that at least the text on the buttons was the same.
I see the size of each clip is displayed on the Mac, would be nice to have that on the Win version as well.

It does indeed have similar appearance. Some minor button artwork difference. I don't even see how it's worth discussing.

I agree the two GUIs have similar appearance, I don't agree it's not worth discussing. On top of important differences in performance/stability between the Mac and the Win versions, to me the GUI is important, it may be important for other people as well. And even if it's not "important", it could be interesting for some people browsing this forum to know the differences between the two platforms. My five cent.

Thanks for going through the trouble of demonstrating the differences! That is very helpful.

I am mostly concerned about some of the translation differences, there's definitely some clean-up work that needs to be done.

I also agree that we should make sure the information that's presented in the timeline should be the same. (It is available on Windows on hovering.)

Overall I do think the UI is very close, no one should have any trouble jumping from Mac to Win or vice versa and use the app.

I updated my VIRB Edit to 2.3.1 and now it crashes rendering any video more than a few minutes in length. Is there anyway to roll back to the older version, which while sketchy at least worked?

And just in case you are wondering this was a video using the in-the-box templates and has been successfully rendered in the old version.

Yes, I have the same issue with 2.3.1. Nice gauges, but export to local file crashes after about 150 Mbytes of output file has been generated. Tried on 3 different Windows PCs (7 and 8) but same issue on all.
Reinstalled 2.2.5 and same video now exports OK in its entirety. Hopefully Garmin will fix this bug soon so that we can use the new features.

Check your forum messages, I sent you a link to the 2.2.5 installer. We will have a 2.3.x release out fairly soon as well.

    Hi,

could you share the link to me too please. I'm unable to export anything over a few seconds long with 2.3.1.

    Thanks.
  • problems to export

Hello, I installed version 2.3.1 but unfortunately I can not export movies to any size. The previous version 2.5 made a fuss but eventually exported the finished movie. The current one always tells me that he had a problem when exporting the movie, or that the editor supports a maximum of 4 GB of video and control the final size ... done but no result.

I just had a preview of Virb Edit 2.3.2.0 and this has solved my export issues.
I send a PM to FALAGAR to confirm. 1Gb uploading to YouTube now, so not sure when availalble, but on local PC it looks very good. http://youtu.be/CjjXtCPWscw
It is also now showing the temperature. 2.3.1.0 wouldn't show temperature from my edge 800, just --- .

Also confirmed. 2.3.2 working good. Didn't try temps from Garmin 500.

This was a 10.8GB Virb import, custom tweaked gauges and many cuts exported down to 2.8GB. Then pared down further and cleaned up in WMM. http://youtu.be/znKdEA8b4q0
