What's new

  • Added customizable gauges. You can now add, move and delete gauges.
  • Added a lot more gauges, temperature is now supported.
  • Added ability to save and reuse custom gauges.
  • Added ability to easily import tracks from attached Garmin mass storage devices.
  • Widened range for clip playback speed (from 0.125x to 8x, up from 0.25x to 2x).
  • Fixed some errant behavior for g-force gauges.
  • Fixed export for pace gauges.
  • Fixed some more export issues.
  • Fixed an issue where file or track import was not working.
  • Fixed an issue where settings changes where not remembered after upgrading VIRB Edit.

Known Issues

  • A few strings have not been localized into non-English languages. They will be in 2.4.
  • Exporting a video when the NONE template is selected does not work. Will be fixed in a 2.3.x maintenance release very soon.
  • There are still some export issues. We are planning to address more of them in 2.3.x as well.
  • Export quality is still not as good as we'd like. 2.3.x should improve things here as well.

Please send us feedback

Please let us know if you encounter any issues. If there are any crashes, please send in the error reports, this really helps us out and we'll make sure to fix them.

Screenshots

Gauges for location, temperature, date/time and even a logo (if you like). Free placement and free choice of what you'd like to include.

Easier import of tracks directly from the device.
  • Might have hit pay dirt
When reinstalling VIRB edit trying to purge the export obstacle, decided to delay Garmin Mapsource re-installation until later (it had wiped it again-seems strange that one Garmin program removes the .exe file for another).

So far so good, VIRB edit hasn't thrown me out yet.

Also, on another much over-advertised camera website, they recommend using Sandisk Extreme 32Gb cards, and the Ultra only for a lower model. http://gopro.com/support/articles/software-update-release

They warn of data corruption with the lower spec card. I'm going to order one now.

    Cheers

    Hi Falagar,

Why have a 4GB file size limit for the export file? There was no file size limit on the 2.2.3. I was happy with my 13GB outputs.... now I can't do my 2hr videos anymore.

Did you try to export with 2.3.1? It was my understanding that it's just a warning message, you can still attempt the export.

This limit is not new in 2.3.1, just the message is new.

I've been testing a Little bit here, and it seems there's a problem with the memory handling. It seems you are trying to store the exported video in memory - or there's a memory leak, but everytime my pc reaches 1.1 gb of used memory during the export process, it dumps.

    A screencap:

Stay below that line and the export will Work fine - is my assumption...

PC is Windows 8, Core I5, 4 Gb of ram.

Yeah, I believe we have that one fixed internally already.

    @FALAGAR
Maybe in a new version you can make a place to safely store custom templates AND widgets.

I'll see what we can do. No promises though, as usual.

    FALAGAR,

    Love the editable gauges!
Could use a few more arc radii for gauges to stack the on the side. Also the ability to flip some to the left vs the right.

    I recorded a 1:20:xx video on 1/16. Edited: http://youtu.be/Pr3tN5qEbaY

1a. It was 10.1GB across 3 video files. When I ran it through Virb Edit, added gauges, and export... shrunk it to 1.7 GB.

2b. The Track gauge. Somehow, it was glitchy as I clicked around switched from showing full ride to just the video segment. I got it to show the track for the entire segment and it exported entirely.

    Today. Did another ride. 1:17:xx

1a. Export is 9.85GB. Waiting on my slow pc to export now, got the 4GB warning. Hopefully it comes out under 1.7GB like above. However; if you changed something quality wise, it may vomit at 4GB? This would be sad due to how long it takes. It would be nice to have a quality choice... Some of us are less picky than others. The previous quality was great to me *shrug*, but definitely need high quality option still.

2b. Track. I can't get it to show all 3 merged entire Track. It's only showing clipped down track for each of the 3 video segments. =(

I synced my Garmin 500 to connect.garmin.com, exported the gpx file. Deleted Virb data, and imported Garmin500 to Virb Edit.

3a. It also broke up the Track map, instead of full map, segments for each of 3 video segments. :(

    3b. Temp gauges didn't work. :(

1a. We are thinking about added a quality setting.

2b. We are working on that. Will be fixed in 2.4 hopefully.

3b. The temperature currently only works for temperature, not for air and water temperature. That is a bug and will be fixed in 2.3.x.

But most importantly: you cannot export anymore? Were you ever able to export with 2.3.1 at all? Even just a small video?

Would you be willing to work with one of our engineers to trying to figure out what's wrong? We'd send you an internal build that spits out some more log data and might have the issue fixed.

I apologize for all the trouble, we really want to get this straightened out.

Just for information, Virb edit 2.3 for Mac doesn't have the issues reported about Virb Edit 2.3.1 for Windows: no 4 GB limit, no problems in exporting (did a 18 GB movie with a nice custom dashboard without any problem), the entire track is shown on the screen even if the movie is made by different segments. And the GUI is (much) nicer. I have both Windows and Mac versions installed.
In short, if you want to fix all your issues, just switch to Mac. I am joking :-)

As a Windows developer, I am obviously a bit biased, but just out of curiosity, where do you feel the Mac GUI is nicer? Other than the look of the buttons, the position of the settings and the title bar, the apps look pretty much the same.

And I personally prefer the video playback (with the map integrated, and not tucked to the side) on the Windows version.

I sure wish we could use the Mac's playback and export library on Windows though...

If you notice anything major that's different between the platforms, please let us know. We do strive for parity.

Sorry, my english is so bad:
My question: Why a quality drops after export movie from VirbEdit?
Video from the VirbElite - Bitrate ~ 20000 mbps – good quality :)
    Video from VirbEdit - Bitrate ~ 12000 mbps – poor quality :(
  • But most importantly: you cannot export anymore? Were you ever able to export with 2.3.1 at all? Even just a small video?

This is my first video set with 2.3.1. I restarted my exports last night.
On my Desktop (Core2Duo, 560Ti) downgraded to 2.2.5, went to bed with it at 60%.
On my corp issued Dell Laptop (E6410, i5, NVS3100), never upgraded from 2.2.5, went to bed with it at 84%.

I awoke to errors on both :( So something is wrong with my latest videos?

So with that realization, and your question about a small video. I upgraded my Desktop back to 2.3.1 and exported a smaller 2:40 video. No error.

The 2:40 video on 2.3.1 only shrunk 18% instead of the 85-90% I was seeing previously. Thats awesome, I like keeping the quality. But choice would be preferred, I'm often ok with a 80-90% reduction.

I would be glad to work with you on testing dev builds!

We have a fix for that issue lined up in the next 2.3.x maintenance release.
