Adjusting GPS Track?

I've been trying to adjust the GPS track but it doesn't seem to save it where I adjusted it to.

My video is about 30secs ahead of the GPS track but everytime I use the adjust button on GPS track it does not save my adjustment and stays at either 00:00 or 00:33 for some reason.

So my GPS track is longer than the combination of videos I have shot, I would like to edit to make the track about 40seconds shorter and it should sync up with the video but everytime I adjust the track it doesnt save my changes. Is it something I'm doing wrong or something on going?

I can't really tell if something is wrong.
I can imagine a track with a long stretch and no points (thats where VIRB Edit is able to cut the track) in between, but 33 seconds seems a long way without points in between.
There a two solutions I can think of.

Cut the track to size in BaseCamp or MapSource. In this way you only see the part of the track that belongs to the video.
Take a piece of video 30 seconds long and use it as a filler. After exporting (with overlay), load the movie in VIRB Edit, cut away the first 30 sec. The disadvantage of this method is that the whole track is visable and you don't start at the beginning.

I track all my mileage when cycling but I started my video about 1min into the ride. Would be nice if there was a way to edit the gps track so I could manually sync it up with the data but I have no idea why it would be so hard to do this. Granted I have no idea what kind of work is involved to get this to work but I thought the "Adjust" button in GPS Track was to compensate for this..

BTW PA3FBO I did try your suggestion but still doesn't sync up for me. I may not be explaining it right.

Only thing I can think of is next time have more video than gps track and then trim the video footage to try and sync it with the GPS data

I have the same problem when I adjust the gps track it is still recovering at 00:00 (sorry this problem is with mac edit)
