Stability with firmware 3.1

I have got my Virb for a week. The first I got it I updated to version 3.1.
I use the fastest sd card I can buy, 16GB.

I have now found out what has caused my Virb to hang itself. Try to take more than one picture quickly will effectively lock down the Virb and force a restart using power button for several seconods. It can be done from photo/ok button or from Edge remote.

I have lots of issues where my Virb Elite locks up. Sometimes it gets to life again in 2-3 minutes, other times the only solution is to remove battery.
I have erased the sd card multiple times, I have tried a second sd card, ai have retored device to default settings. Nothing helps.
A typical 60 minute mtb ride gives med 20 minutes of complete video and some still images. After this the unit locks up for 5 minutes. Next video will be without gps or ant data at all.

To me this is not acceptable, I am going to send it in to garmin for a warranty replacement if no one else experience the same.

which SD card are you running? I use a San Disk Ultra HC 32 gig. occasional lock ups but they are getting better as the firmwares continue to be updated. also if you formatted the card, you will have to re update the camera. Just FYI.

I had the same problem. I updated it and it froze. But once I did the factory reset it has been stable.
Reformat your card after update. Reinsert in virb. press and hold the down button while powering up. You can release it in a few seconds after you see stat up led. It will ask if you want to erase everything (yes).

It seems rather odd the way each of the camera's seem to have their on individual quirks. Just something I notice here in the forums.
  • Navythomas: I use a sandisk 16GB 10x speed. I am always "formatting" the card in the camera, as I do on my other cameras.
Are you saying the firmware is on the sd card?
Yes, if they are all behaving differently and have different bugs I dont see how any firmware can fix it :)
You should really check out advrider.com if you havent already. Lots of bike and virb discussions there.
  • I edited the first post to clarify.
