Will probably have too many questions but let me start with any easy one; "how the heck do I get decent audio on my Virb Elite?" Did a test ride with it for the 1st time yesterday (yes, it was a xmas gift :D ) and the audio totally sux, can't hear squat except back-ground audio like gear changes, chain-slappin' but no real audio [voice] to speak of. What am I missin'? Thanks in advance for any help
Audio is (almost) always a problem for action cameras. The microphone needs to be away from wind and moist. Therefor it is inside the casing, resulting in poor audio. The solution for this problem is using and external microphone. Besides the cost of the noise (wind) cancelling microphone is that the watertight case of the camera needs to stay open. I've had a Drift X-170 and have a RoadHawk Ride camera and used them on my motorbike. Both had/have this problem. At times you only can hear a rattle instead of the sound of the engine and the surroundings. Here are some examples of video's taken with the RoadHawk Ride and edited/overlayed with VIRB-Edit so you can compare to the VIRB. http://youtu.be/ZsA2n1GXYA4 http://youtu.be/ZfQOV4_PeTQ http://youtu.be/iVusuFwXApU
That's actually part of the existing mount. From the back, it's on the left side, held in by a tiny screw. That little piece holds the foam block to, I assume, reduce wind noise and protect the mic. I removed mine to get better audio, but it's still pretty bad. I'm looking for an external solution now.
