Having touble with my virb being recognized by my computer

Hi everyone....
I just got my Virb basic and am having an issue connecting it to my PC...
Plugging in the virb via USB to the PC, the PC recognizes it and the virb powers up, green light comes on, then the virb powers off....computer of course loses it just as if you had unplugged it from the computer....
I can take the micro SD card out of the virb, put it in its card adapter, plug it in to the PC and it recognizes it and operates as it should...with the virb edit software, I am then able to upload the videos from the memory card.....

It will just not recognize and keep the Virb on power via USB cable when plugged into the computer. I should be able to plug the Virb in and upload the videos without having to take the card out of the unit...

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME OUT WITH A SOLUTION???
THANKS in advance for any help someone could provide...

Oh yeah, if you want to see a video of exactly what mine is doing, please look on youtube for a poster named Brad Herder...his video is Garmin VIRB Connect to PC Problem
This is exactly what mine is doing too....

Thanks, Chris

This may sound a little strange, but give it a try.
I just purchased a VIRB Elite Mid August and had the same issue of it not being totally recognized by windows 7 (I don't have a windows a 8 PC). So I tried it on multiple window 7 PC's, same issue. I do however have multiple gadgets that use the same like/type USB cable (however some are longer or shorter or thicker and with resistors) I found a different cable and gave it a try, no luck, but on the 3rd cable everything worked. This is not a unique issue, many devises work off of a particular voltage and resistance. Also each PC is a little bit different in its make up and configuration. IE different parts, brands and manufacuters.
Give it a try, also make sure the connecter is fully seated in the VIRB, you need to feel unique click.

Thank God for this post. I was ready to give up. Changed my USB cable and everything fired up and the Virb is working fine now. Thanks Bazettel!

Glad this thread was at the top of the google search lol

Bumping this because I too didn't realise the need to push harder and 'click in' the lead

    Hey,
I have been using my Virb Elite for a couple of years now and have always and still have an issue with transferring the videos from my Camera to VIRB Edit until I figured out that when the battery is fully charged the VIRB will shut down faster than you can click on download. I now keep a almost fully discharged battery on hand just for the purpose of transferring the videos from the camera. Pushing harder for a click does not solve the issue.

I was having the no charge no connect issue today after weeks of solid use. For me formatting the SD card was the fix. I had deleted everything off of the SD card using the PC and it somehow corrupted the format. If pushing the USB cable in further doesn't fix it. Try formatting the SD card for sure.

VIRB Basic not recognised by Mac

    Hi,

All similar problems as to everyone else in this thread although I'm trying to connect my VIRB Basic to my Mac. Thursday last week 09/07/15, it connected with the latest software upgrade via Garmin Connect i.e. 4.00. Recorded a flight lesson for 1.5 hours, came back home and it now does not recognise my device. Continual message of "Virb not connected".

I usually have this connected via my USB hub (as these days there are so many USB devices) and charges without a problem. Tried other USB cables including my GoPro USB cable (charges the Virb, but still "Virb not connected" message.

I have tried plugging the USB cable directly into the Mac without USB hub and still no luck.

    Kind regards,

    Sean

Do you have an SD card reader? What happens if you take the SD card out of your VIRB and plug it into an SD card reader directly?

    Try the reformat!!!

Got my older style verb basic in the post today, took it out and it had firmware 3.10, plugged it in following me transferring my memory card from my galaxy S3 into the unit. Following it being plugged in it said that the it was installing the driver, then it stopped quite quickly and said that it could not install the driver. I then clicked the close icon. from this point on the computer (windows 7 based PC) could not directly recognise the virb, but would display the sd card. I had to format the SD card before it would allow me to connect it again - I chose the other file format that my card was not running, clicked format and it started then crashed. Following this the virb came on and immediately connected to connect. Strange! I then updated the firmware to 4.00 via connect. Took the USB out and restarted. Unit is not updating - but seems to be taking a long time - about 10 mins so far.... If the update does not work then I will add more but currently letting the green light flash and the screen indicating that it is updating.
