Having touble with my virb being recognized by my computer

Hi everyone....
I just got my Virb basic and am having an issue connecting it to my PC...
Plugging in the virb via USB to the PC, the PC recognizes it and the virb powers up, green light comes on, then the virb powers off....computer of course loses it just as if you had unplugged it from the computer....
I can take the micro SD card out of the virb, put it in its card adapter, plug it in to the PC and it recognizes it and operates as it should...with the virb edit software, I am then able to upload the videos from the memory card.....

It will just not recognize and keep the Virb on power via USB cable when plugged into the computer. I should be able to plug the Virb in and upload the videos without having to take the card out of the unit...

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME OUT WITH A SOLUTION???
THANKS in advance for any help someone could provide...

Oh yeah, if you want to see a video of exactly what mine is doing, please look on youtube for a poster named Brad Herder...his video is Garmin VIRB Connect to PC Problem
This is exactly what mine is doing too....

Thanks, Chris

    Hi,

I have been experiencing almost the same issue here. My Virb Elite, when turned on, shows the garmin logo followed by the battery charging screen and then fully booted so I at the View Finder screen.

Using Verb Edit I am not able to connect to the camera. Does not recognise the camera is connected. If I put the SD card into the laptop it is picked up. Have tried factory reset, erase SD from the Virb and formatted the SD on the laptop.

On an unrelated note my Virb has been taking ages to charge. Plugged into USB or Garmin charger the light goes red and charges for about 10 seconds and then boots to view finder and light goes green.

Honestly I am a bit dissapointed with the software for the camera at the moment but I am hoping these are just teething issues that are soon to be fixed.

    Thanks,
    Charles
  • Same problem here... I have tried three different Windows 7 PCs and two different cables, but nothing is recognizing. Haven't had it very long and I'm still trying to charge it, the port seems to be touchy and I haven't managed to get much past low battery since I received it. I can use a card reader to import files, but not being able to update firmware is a bit of a pain. I am currently on 2.6 firmware.

Any solution out there to this? Disappointing that I can't get a $400 product to fully function.

    I am using USB2 ports.

Just checked Verb Edit version is 2.2.5.0
Verb Elite firmware version is 3.1.0
  • I have had issues with USB 3 ports in the past, but that does not apply to you. Sounds like you will need to call Garmin and let them troubleshoot for you over the phone.

Not trying to hijack the tread, but wanted to follow up for anyone who was having trouble with their Virb. My issue turned out to be a non-issue--I apparently had an extremely stiff port/cord combo and I wasn't getting the USB mini end fully into the plug on the Virb. Once I got the cord all the way in, it started working fine :p

I feel like an idiot, but I've honestly never had a cord that took THIS much force to fully insert. I thought it was in as far as it would go before, but I guess not.

I feel like I need to take the walk of shame out of this thread ;) Just tried this and likewise, was surprised when the cable clicked in fully. Thanks TRUMPDABEAST!

Well I'm glad that me admitting to MY stupid mistake helped you too! Also glad the connection is firm (meaning it won't wear out as quickly). I just wish I had realized it sooner! It's odd that it will charge somewhat with the cord partially inserted.

The good news is that it works 100% of the time when the cable is fully connected!
