Virb Edit GPS overlay with multiple clips

I have a Virb Elite, 810, HRM, & Powermeter on my bike.
I have a continuous data file from the 810 but multiple video clips on the Virb. For each video clip I independently replace and synchronize the Virb GPS data with the same (entire) 810 data recording. Unfortunately, when I then play the video the GPS data is synced only on the first clip and seems to lose the syncing when it gets to the subsequent clips. This is especially troublesome since the Virb creates a separate video file every 3.67GB.
Is this a known issue or am I doing something wrong?

Just a couple questions to rule out all the obvious options:

    1. You are using VIRB Edit 2.2.0? (Click on the "About" button on the top left to see the version number)
    2. You are adjusting each clip to the proper position?
  • It doesn't synch automatically?

I recorded a long ride and it broke it into three clips. I put them on the time line in order and created the video. I would hope we wouldn't need to synch each of the video clips to the one gps file, do we really have to do that?

Give 2.2.2 a spin, see if it does a better job at aligning.
  • Sorry, been away and racing cyclocross this weekend.
I came across this forum by searching on Google for Virb Edit Forum and was directed here. I just realized that this is the Virb Windows forum and I'm using the Mac version. Is the question still relevant here?

I had the latest version at the time and yesterday (not sure what version that was) and I installed 2.2.2 yesterday.

    The problem is (was) that:
    1. multiple video recordings made during a single 810 recording would each require replacing the GPS with the entire GPS track, no problem
    2. after syncing the GPS track with each clip, it would not stay synced with each subsequent clip

BTW, I noticed this weekend while trying to sync an 810 recording with a Virb clip that I can sync them at a specific point but they appear to play at different speeds. They are in sync at only the one point and are out of sync at every other point in the recording. The video was recorded on FAST so I suspect the frame count was different than what the software was expecting...?

There have been other reports that the 720p 60fps has sync issues in Virb Edit ... I am using 1080p 30fps and all is good!

You probably want to post your questions on the Mac forum then. https://forums.garmin.com/forumdisplay.php?425-VIRB-Edit is the link.
  • If you don't want to sync multiple files from a continuous video, just join the clips as one large video file using MPEG StreamClip, then importing into Virb and add the GPS data to that long video.
Just drag the files into MPEG StreamClip, then click Save As (use the mp4 extension)

I had the same idea about putting my clips together, but then the VIRB edit software would not import it. The file is 8gb.
There is a progress bar saying Importing Clips (1/1), then a dialog asking for Import only, Copy Clips or cancel. I have tried the first two, and it quickly finishes with Library Update (0/1) and an OK button.

Is there a limit on file size? I have a Intel i7 q740, 6GB ram. I can see the thumbnail of the video clip but it does not load.
  • Same issue here. I've recorded a long ride pausing the camera for some time but never turning it off. The first pause is recognized and shown as a gray line. The following pauses are taken apparently as different activities and not joined. Overlay meters like partial time and distances are incorrect if I use them.

    See attachment.

Using Virb Elite camera with Virb Edit 2.9.2. (latest at this time).

I'm using a Virb Basic and mine splits the clips into 23:56 segments. I'm running Virb Edit 2.9.2 on Windows 8.1. I was having issues on my mac, but today when I applied the GPS clip (the entire ride taken on a Garmin 500) to each of the three clips of my morning ride I've found it syncs up properly.
