VIRB Edit with Windows 8.1

When I export videos using VIRB Edit the program stops after downloading one video using Windows 8.1 on my desktop. I have to restart the program to download the next video and the program shuts down after each video. The Windows 8.1 creates a file with only a few hundreds bytes in the video/virb (default) folder and displays an error when I double-click on it using the Media Player. File name is virb00xx.mp4. When I export again it creates another file using the same name but with a (1) after it - virb00xx(1).mp4 and this file works when I click on it.

I ran the VIRB Edit on my Windows 7 laptop and it downloads all the video without any problems.

Thanks for listening

    No help from me in this case, but you'd better post this in the Windows section instead of the Mac section.

    When I export videos using VIRB Edit the program stops after downloading one video using Windows 8.1 on my desktop.......

    I think you meant importing a new video from your 'Garmin Virb' to the program 'Virb Edit'.

    I'm having the same problem. I start Virb Edit, the program connects to my Virb Elite, it scans for new videos. Then i should be able to choose to import all new videos or just a selection. It doesn't matter which one i choose, neither of them work anymore.

    The first time i started te program it worked fine. 2 Videos where imported (with gps data) i could create a video, edit and export the video.

    The second time importing resulted in a crash.
    The program still connects to my Virb Elite, but when selecting import... The program crashes.
    It creates an MP4 in the map User/Video/Virb but it seams incomplete. All of the imported files are 720kB. No where near the actual size.

    I have tried different things:
    1) Reinstalling Virb Edit: Didn't help;
    2) Deleting all imported MP4 in de User/Video/Virb folder: Didn't help;
    3) Deleting all data in folder User/AppData/Roaming/Garmin/VIRB Edit/Database: DID HELP!!!

    I was able to import a video again. But....
    Only one time. The second time, same problem.

    I dont know if the problem is Windows 8.1 related.
    Maybe one of the devollopers could reply?

    Update 17-11:
    4) Kopied all files from Virb to C drive. Then tried to import from that location. Didn't work.

    Finaly i installed Virb Edit on an old Windows 7 machine: Worked fine! Problem with this machine is that it is to slow. It can't handle the big files very well.

    Seems as if the combination Virb Edit and Windows 8.1 is the problem.

    Solution please!

    Thanks,
    Eddie

    Thank you for your detailed investigation. I am very sorry you are running into this issue.

    We are still trying to dig down into what's going on. Your data should definitely help us to narrow down what's going on. Thanks again.

    Yesterday Microsoft released one of some updates for windows 8.1.
    After installing the latest update i thought: 'lets try Virb Edit again'.

    Surprise!!!!
    Virb Edit is importing videos again.

    Still don't know what the problem was, but evidently the Windows update did solve the problem.
    I hope the next windows update won't cause problems ;)
  • I do not appear to be having much luck with the Virb. Add me to this list too :(
    Virb Edit 2.2 crashes anytime I attempt to import videos from the Virb. No errors in the app logs.
    I have a 8.1 with all the latest Windows patches.

    More information

    If you are still experiencing this problem could you please post some more information about your hardware configuration? The more detail the better (especially CPU, RAM, GPU and Hard disk capacity)! I can reproduce this on a Surface Pro with Windows 8.1 preview installed but not on other Windows 8.1/8 machines.

    Thank you.
  • Virb Edit crashes soon as you attempt to import videos from the Virb Elite. No errors

    Lenovo Yoga
    Windows 8.1 /w latest windows patches
    8 GB DDR3 RAM
    256 GB Solid-State Drive

    Something to try

    HEATWAVE23, try this out for me if you would;
    Open TaskManager and go to the details panel and end TabTip.exe's process. (This is the touch keyboard so you will have to use your physical keyboard after you do this!)
    My Surface Pro was crashing VIRBEdit like yours and this seemed to help.
  • Killing TabTip.exe did allow me to import the files from the Virb but still not able to export them
