If there is ever an update to VIRB Edit, here is a method that may make it easier to sync video and GPS data. It is sorta based on how "clappers" were used to sync film and separately recorded audio. They would clap the board at the start of the beginning of the separate video and audio recordings. Then in the editing process they would match the frame with the clapper down with the audio spike.
Update VIRB Edit software sync window to display current position GPS time on the RH (map) display window.
When starting the video recording, record a bit of time of a accurate time source such as a cell phone. Then continue recording your adventure. A watch could be used but it should be synced to GPS or atomic clock time.
When editing/syncing match the displayed time on the video to the displayed time on the GPS screen. Obviously this only works if the GPS file contains time.
The only software change is the GPS time display window. This should make it easier to sync video and GPS or at least gets you very close quicker. Every video recording start would require a quick shot of the clock but for some, this would be worth the effort.
For the DIYers, you could make a clapper board with a digital clock display :-)
