In Virb Edit exported video appears a grid pattern

After exporting the video, a grid appears, which is a deffect (screenshot attached). It is appearing and disappearing, throughout all the video. Has anyone else encountered this and what could be the solution? I tried both, with Ffmpeg and Media Foundation encoders which are available in the selection. The original video is flawless, only happens after processing. Also happens with non-Virb video, so it is not camera related

Tried with:
720p, 30 FPS, High,
1080p, 30 FPS, High
480p, 30 FPS, Max

  • Hi erkkizzz,

I've seen the issue you mention in the past. It's usually a driver issue. I know you mention you have the latest drivers, but did you get the drivers from your Laptop manufacturer's website or from AMD's website? If you got your drivers from your Laptop manufacturer's website that may be your problem, it's always best to get drivers directly from AMD's website.

Another issue I noticed, which could affect export, is your video card is below the minimum specs of VIRB Edit. According to the VIRB Edit download page the minimum Video card needed for 720p/1080p is a AMD Radeon 6570. Since you have a mobile video card the 7500/7600 may actually be weaker than the desktop 6570 (do a quick google search for more info).

VIRB Edit's system requirements have changed. About a year ago you could get away with a Video Card lower than the minimum requirements, but as more features have been added that has changed, VIRB Edit is more picky when using low spec Video Cards now.

I see you've tried multiple encoders, you could also try different decoders in the Settings. The Video decoder also affect exports.

  • Thanks for the reply. I made sure the drivers are up to date. Even with the lowest quality (Resolution 480p, Target Quality Low) the problem still appears. I will look for the older version to roll back, as there are other issues as well (e.g. crash on Auto Creating videos).

A new version of VIRB Edit (5.4.2) was released today, can you please download that one and see if your issues still occur? Also, I may need to get some info from you regarding the Auto Creating videos crash as it is not occurring for me. If this crash is occurring for you when you use recordings from a non-virb camera I may need the video clip that's causing the crash in order to get the crash fixed.
  • Hi! Yes, I just downloaded and tested the new version, the same issue with the grid pattern still appears on 720p, High quality.

And regarding the crash - it was a video I took yesterday on Garmin Virb Elite. The video was automatically cut into 4 parts due to it's size. The crash only occurs with the first part of the video. With other 3 it didn't. Also happens with normal video project. If I first import 3 last parts of the video, all goes well, just after importing the first recorded part, it crashes, so it must be something with the file itself, because it also makes Virb Edit crash when I just try to play it in Virb Edit Media library without importing it to any project. The video which makes Virb Edit crash, runs well on VLC and Windows Media Player.

    Camera data:
    Model: Virb Elite
    S/N: 3QN007161

Video was whot 1080p, Ultra Zoom, Stabilizer ON, Lens Correct ON, HR sensor connected.
