Ver 5.3.1 and DirectX 12?

Greetings,

Just did a clean Virb Edit 5.3.1 install for the first time on my computer:

Intel i7 7700K
32Gb DDR4 RAM
Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080 Ti (Driver 397.31)
Win 10 Pro, 64-bit (build 16299)
DirectX 12 (checked with DxDiag)

And first time I try to start the software - I get an error stating:

"The computer graphics does not support DirectX 10. VIRB Edit demands DirectX 10 or higher to work as it should" - followed by a dialogue stating that VIRB Edit has stopped working.

I clearly have a "or higher" than DirectX 10 - so why does it not start?
  • Hi Idus,

Are you still seeing this issue on your PC with the latest Nvidia drivers (new drivers are available)? I will attempt to reproduce this issue when I get home today as I have a 1080 Ti also.

    Ryzen 7
    64 GB DDR4 RAM
    Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080 Ti
    Win 10 Pro, 64-Bit

If you're still seeing this issue can you try something out real quick?
    1. Uninstall VIRB Edit as you normally would
    2. Navigate to C:\Users\'USERNAME'\AppData\Roaming\Garmin
    3. Delete or rename the VIRB Edit folder (Rename if you don't want to lose all your previously imported clips)
    4. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Garmin and delete the VIRB Edit folder
    5. Install VIRB Edit again and see if you're still seeing the issue

    Thanks
  • Hello again Idus,

I'm not seeing the issue you are. I've attempted with multiple Windows 10 Pro machines running Windows build 16299, including PCs running 8-64GB of RAM, a 1080 Ti, 1070, and a few AMD GPUs. If you're still seeing the error after performing the 5 steps I mentioned in the above post please try the below additional troubleshooting steps.

    1. Disable any CPU or GPU overclocking
    2. Check if the issue is fixed
    3. Update Windows if it's not already completely updated
    4. Check if the issue is fixed
    5. Uninstall your Nvidia drivers and do a clean install (do not overclock your GPU after install)
    6. Check if the issue is fixed
    7. Disable all Anti-Virus and Firewall programs
    8. Check if the issue is fixed

    Please post with your results.

    Thanks!
