VIRB Edit - complete failure Windows 10

Hi all,

I have a highly specced gaming laptop and can't get VIRB Edit to play, edit or preview any 360 video. I've followed suggestions such as updating video drivers, languages, the Codecs etc.

All I get is "Virb EDIT has stopped working" - how do I post a log file?

My specs are:

i7 7th Gen 3.0GHz
32Gb RAM
1070 8GB NVidea Graphics card
SSD

Anything else?
  • I'm guessing it's a weird bug with the Nvidia GTX mobile drivers.

My desktops work fine, but laptops seem to crash. I am testing on a new Alienware 15R3 - i7-7700HQ, 16GB ram, GTX 1070 8GB. Latest drivers, clean install of Windows 10. It plays the imported videos fine sometimes, but it seems to crash when working with GMetrix data. Other times it will crash while just trying to preview an imported video.

Using Virb Edit 5.1.3, as 5.2.0 has a Gmetrix 180 flip bug, so I can't use it for my needs (I record upside down in car).
  • finally found the log files. I am using 5.1.3, so edit the path to your version. You can find the error log files here:

  • update - I plugged in a new USB Star Tech 7.1 sound card. The software appears to work fine now on the laptop (I rendered two different 20 minute videos). Virb edit appears to have a bug with the audio channel layout on laptops.
