Hi Everyone,

VIRB Edit release 5.1.2 for Win is now available. You can download it from here.
The in-application update is live as well.

This release includes the following:
• Added light/dark theme 360 intro/outro
• Addressed export issues and improved stability
• Various localization updates and improvements
• TexasChip I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing crashes with the app. We're urgently working to resolve crashes and release updated versions of the app. Could you please share additional information regarding the crash you're experiencing?

1. Is it crashing for you while editing or while exporting?
Crash scenarios:
o I try to play an existing/old video
o I try to edit an existing video -> Virb Edit crashes
o I create a new video, then drag and drop a new clip into the video timeline -> Virb Edit crashes
2. If it is crashing during exporting then I suggest addressing the following:
? Is your video card driver up to date?
Yes, my video card drivers are up to date. I have two video cards on my high-end laptop: on-board Intel HD Graphics 630, and a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060. Drivers for both cards are updated to the latest. I also tried disabling either of the graphics cards, but VE still crashed
? Are you experiencing the crash during the export process or
I experience crashes when trying to play an existing/old video, or trying to edit an old video or when creating a new video (specifically when adding a clip to it).
? Does the crash happen before the export progress increments past 0% or
I experience crashes when trying to play an existing/old video, or trying to edit an old video or when creating a new video (specifically when adding a clip to it). I can?t even get to the export step.
? Does the crash happen after the export progress reaches 100%?
I experience crashes when trying to play an existing/old video, or trying to edit an old video or when creating a new video (specifically when adding a clip to it). I can?t even get to the export step.
? Did you try selecting different encoder/decoder settings under Menu -> Settings -> Media to check if this enables export to go through?
Yes, I tried all possible combinations, with no luck.
3. If it is crashing during editing then do submit the crash report. It should give you the option to add text before submitting the crash report. Would you go ahead and type in my forum ID equinox1234 to help us find the crash report?
I was never presented with the option to submit a crash report.
4. It would be helpful if you copied the crash data prior to submitting it and sent us a copy. You can post it here if you'd like.
I have e-mailed the crash data from two separate crashes to [email protected]. Also pasting it here in this forum post.
5. Additional steps to reproduce the crash would be helpful.
No additional detail to provide.

? What exactly is happening? What error message are you seeing? (A screen-shot might be helpful.)
? Is it a Laptop or a Desktop you are trying this on?
Laptop
? Give us the model name if you can. (Something like "Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro", or "Dell Optiplex 990".)
MSI GS63VR laptop
? How much RAM does your computer have?
32GB (2x16GB) CORSAIR Vengeance DDR4 3000MHz Dual Channel Memory
? What CPU (processor) does it have?
Intel Core i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.80GHz, 4 Cores, 8 Logical Processors
? What GPU (graphics card) does it have and how much memory does that card have?
Two GPU?s: Intel HD Graphics 630 and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB RAM)

Humble me - I believe that Garmin is taking the wrong software tact in requiring relatively high powered Graphics Cards to operate VIRB EDIT 4.2.3 and greater. Software should be able to interrogate the Graphics cards processing abilities and utilize a EXPORT or SHARE processing routine that can utilize the processing abilities, or lack thereof, of the Graphics Card that exists on any individual machine. If processing takes longer because of a less than optimum graphics card - so be it - at least let the processing take place.

Having put about $1K into My Dell 3847 in 2014 as a W8.1 machine that was upgraded to a W10 machine when that became available it is rather degrading of you to tell 'YOUR CUSTOMER' that you don't have high powered enough hardware. While I am certain there are a number of 'computer geeks' that have high powered graphics cards to discard customers the used VIRB Edit 3.6 successfully that the have to upgrade their computer and/or graphics card does not leave a good taste in the mouth of THE CUSTOMER Not everybody is a Gamer and seeking out the hottest Graphic Card in existence - don't program to that level.
• You are somehow right, mmi16.
There are very contrarious posts about goals of Virb Edit. I think they are standing for them self...

Minimum System Requirements
Operating System (PC): Windows 7 SP1 (64-bit) + Platform Update
Processor: 2.5GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 or AMD FX
Memory (RAM): 8 GB
Graphics Card: Intel HD 5000 / nVidia GeForce GT 630 / AMD Radeon 8570
Graphics Memory (RAM): 2 GB

The original vision of VirbEdit was to create a simple software suite users could use to do simple editing operations on the videos recorded with our cameras. So the general answer is that we are not trying to compete with Adobe Premiere. Some features, such as PNG overlay export, actually exist to enable users to use professional level editing software in conjunction with VirbEdit's most important features(data overlays). That said, during VirbEdit 5.1 development, it was decided that we should make performance a major priority, and a big part of that was adding GPU acceleration(and it was big, difficult and expensive). There is probably still some room for refinement, but we made major strides in how fast you can export videos.
[...]
For other features, like cropping and zooming, there doesn't seem to be a lot of managerial interest in adding them to the application, which is in keeping with the general philosophy of what we want VirbEdit to be.

Not having a professional claim, but expecting a pro gaming PC :D

PS. I don?t want to blame it on equinox or purdington, they are very helpful and anxious!!!
• Thanks equinox1234 - I work in a senior helpdesk position. If you need me to pull any other info or mess with config or registry settings for VirbEdit let me know.

mmi16 & HerrRiebmann - The list of minimum specs that were published at VIRB Edit WIn 5.x release pertained to 4k, particularly 360. An updated set of minimum and recommended machine specs are now posted for non-4k (1080p/720p, 2D) and 4k (2D, 360), I hope this will help clear confusion surrounding machine specs that are encouraged for optimal performance: https://forums.garmin.com/forum/mac-windows-software/windows-software/virb-edit-aa/1235999-virb-edit-win-5-x-minimum-recommended-machine-specs

I don't desire 4K or 360 processing! Does a Intel HD 4600 graphics card satisfy the Intel HD 4000 graphics card requirement?

While the newly published specs are great - if my HD 4600 exceeds the requirement of HD 4000 - why does VIRB Edit crash and shut down every time I try to Export something using any of the versions of VIRB Edit beyond 3.6?
• I noticed something odd on 5.1.2... previously the movie reel at the bottom of the screen indicated the speed, cadence and heart rate peaks in the g-metrix data, making it easy to find the action when editing. My latest project shows nothing. The data is from a downwind surfski paddle, so the speed jumps from around 11kmph to over 15kmph when catching a run.

i'm having the same problems with 5.1.2. I'm able to import the video, as soon as I try to play, edit or anything else it crashes, I have an intel Core I7, 16gb Ram 1.5tb free Hd Space and my NVidia GTX 750 TI has the most recent up dates, and my Windows 10 also has the most recent up dates to. I did not have any problems until I up graded VIRB Edit, to the newest version.

I am running VIRB Edit 5.1.2 on a Windows 10 operating system. I like using the timelapse function on my VIRB XE camera for my longer activities such as bike rides. After a few updates ago the GMetrix quit working on my videos if it is a timelapse video. The GMetrix works fine for normal videos. I have tried reloading the GMetrix data after the 5.1.2 update. I chose the VIRB XE over other cameras because of the ability to display the telemetry on my videos. I was very disappointed when the GMetrix quit working for the timelapse videos. Any ideas how to correct this problem?
• @equinox1234, any progress with getting to the bottom of this? I posted my response and sent in my log files two weeks ago, but I haven't heard a thing. Thanks!
