Processing Times VIRB Edit 3.6 vs. 4.2

I have 2 machines running W10. A desktop with 12 Gig main memory that can only use Virb Edit 3.6. A laptop with 8 Gig main memory that can process Virb 4.2.

For grins - I put the same source file through Virb Edit on both machines.

The Desktop with 3.6 completed the processing in a little over 40 minutes.

The Laptop with 4.2 completed the processing in approximately 1 Hour 40 minutes.

I understand some of the difference in processing time can be attributed to the difference in the size of the main memory, however, a full hour more processing time????

Secondly, importing the file into Virb 4.2 takes about 20 minutes account of the 'Preview' processing that Virb 4.2 performs.

Virb 4.2.3 is a dog!

Did you make sure both versions used the same encoding technology? I believe we switched the default to ffmpeg in later versions, and ffmpeg (used in 4.2.3) ends up being quite a bit slower on many machines (which we did not realize until too late). Also, laptops tend to be much slower at everything when compared to desktop machines, even when their specs seem similar. Laptop processors and graphics hardware just tend to have a lot less power than their desktop counterparts, and that will definitely translate to slower export times. If you want a fair comparison, see how 4.2.3 compares to 3.6 on the same machine with the same encoding and decoding technologies selected for export.

I would do that IF I could get 4.2.3 to EXPORT or SHARE on my desktop. That I why I am using the laptop with 4.2.3 and the desk top with 3.6.
