VIRB Edit Fails to Export Videos

Hello,

I have two days of video on my XE that amount to six mp4 files, which all play just fine on multiple devices. I have never had a problem with virb edit processing in the past. However, I am having difficulty. I am able to import the clips to the software and do my edits. Once finished and begin the export, it always fails around 60% done. I have tried this with all different settings. I have changed the encoder and decoders, I have lowered the resolutions and quality, I even tried it on a Mac- same problem- ends with "error exporting".

I enabled detailed logging on the Windows version, and the first error I see is:

[4:17:29 AM Error src\impl\ColorSpaceTransform.cpp line 118 Null Sample

Followed by the ending of it:

4:17:31 AM Debug video::ffmpeg::Demuxer_t::Close
4:17:31 AM Debug video::ffmpeg::Demuxer_t::Demuxer_t destructed: V:\VIRB-Action-Cam-RAW\RawVideo\Northampton-CX-2016-Day1\VIRB0269-3.MP4

Has anyone seen this error? Very frustrating. It does suggest some problem with the original files- something that the encoder/decoders can not handle, but not detectable when watching the original mp4. I am running virb edit 4.2.2 and software 4.30 on the XE.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

    This error should only be possible when exporting with Media Foundation as your encoder. You mentioned you tried changing encoders. Does the error log look different with ffmpeg as the selected encoder?
  • Thank you for the reply.

    I changed the encoder to ffmepeg, and I still have an error.

    Can you send your log files to me via PM? I'd like to examine them in more detail and see if I can figure out what is going wrong

    something else

    Hi just to mention and I could be totally off here but check over your pc. Do you have enough free space? How much memory do you have?
    It could be a computer fault. Can you run a memory test and hard drive surface scan? Is the computer over heating?
    just thinking outside the box on this one, might help not sure.
  • Thanks Enduro. I pretty much rule out the PC, because it has always worked before (15 + processing times), it fails on another PC and a Mac, and I do have plenty of memory and CPU headroom. The strange thing is that if I process each 15 minute clip separately, it is fine. Only when I want to process the full ride (35 minutes, 3 clips) is when it fails. Again, this is not the first attempt. I have processed many other hour plus movies without an issue. Very strange, and frustrating.

    strange

    Hi Wombat, yeah that is definitely strange then. have you had a recent graphics driver update? I know in the past new drivers have killed my gpu rendering ability within adobe premiere pro. I'm fairly new to virb edit but have used the adobe products for ages as they are bullet proof. Sony Vegas was terrible on crashing while exporting.
    I've worked in IT for like 14 years now so seen a lot. Anyway as for you issue that is even more strange you can do each one seperate but when all together it kills it. and this happens with the same video files on another pc or mac? that's even more weird. That being said if you use ffmpeg for decode and encode it's using all cpu so gpu drivers shouldn't even be an issue. Have you experimented with the dxva? that's gpu too but worth a shot. I did a comparison test on all the combinations you can check from the forum page.
    Anyway rambled a bit there, so to confirm, PC 1 has this issue only with this project, have you tried doing a quick test sample video with other files?
    and the other pc or mac you are using the same source video files and it is crashing as well?
  • Yeah, I've tried everything I can think of. Older source files work fine. My two newest ones do not. So, at this point, it could be an issue with the camera itself. I'll know for sure next time I race.
