Greetings! I have an older version of VIRB Edit (3.x.x) and I have dozens of overlay templates to choose from. I recently installed the latest version (4.2.2) on my laptop and unfortunately see only three choices now, Default, Classic and None. I can't find a way to use VIRB Edit to browse locally for any templates. They're correctly installed on my machine. I can find all of 'em through Win 10 file explorer. I just can't seem to make VIRB Edit see them. "Get more" doesn't seem to help. Any help wold be much appreciated. Thanks!

    xsirvalencex,

I'm a user like yourself so please bear with me in these questions. I don't know your tech expertise so I mean no offense by asking some simple questions or offering advise.

    1. How did you install VIRB Edit (VE) 4.2.2? Was it a fresh install or did you select the update function from within the program?
    2. Did you use VE 3.x on your laptop previously?
    3. Did you create a backup of your templates before VE 4.2.2 was installed?
    4. Did you use the default installation file locations?
    5. What directories are your widgets and templates stored*? I have a related post here: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?87975-Guide-Creating-custom-overlays-for-VIRB-Edit/page2 See Posts #13 and #15.
    6. Have you checked the Settings page in VE? Go to Menu, select Settings, select G-Metrix, and verify Overlay Filtering option is un-checked. If the checkbox is selected, you opt to "Hide Overlays when I don't have G-Metrix for them".
6.a. If checked, that means an overlay for heart rate will not be displayed if no data exists for it. This applies to standard and custom widgets and/or templates.
6.b. Sometimes, from the G-Metrix option of editing a video, the pull-down menu will stick and only display "All" Templates and no other option is available. This glitch could be cleared by selecting the Gauges Tab and then return to the Templates Tab.
    7. This may help reduce any future pain on newer updates, but it is recommended to backup your custom templates/widgets before any upgrade to this software is applied. See the asterisk below for location.

    * - The user-made Templates and Widgets are found here by default:
    C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\VIRB Edit\Telemetry\Templates
    C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\VIRB Edit\Telemetry\Widgets

Best of luck to you and let us know what you find or fix!

    Cheers,
    GeoS72

That´s the deal. It is also discussed several times in the 4.1.X-Thread.
Sometimes you have to check it, leave the setup and enter it again to uncheck it. Maybe you have to restart Edit afterwards (I had to).
Then everything is back again. Stock, custom and downloaded overlays.

Thanks, HerrRiebmann for sharing your experience! I'll keep your widget refresh in mind should that happen to me again.
