VIRB Edit 4.2.1 Update Corrupted G-Metrix data

I updated VIRB Edit from 4.1.1 to 4.2.1 and I'm upset!

The install began from within the program. There were no problems loading the new software. I ran VE 4.2.1 and checked out a video that I made under 4.1.1. The Circuit Shape and Track Position data is all fouled up. I attempted to refresh the data by using the G-Metrix Sync and Activity Start Time functions. The problem got worse! Now GPS data is no longer in sync with the video. Fortunately, the video is already published. However, the data appears to be corrupted and cannot be undone!

Is there a way to recalibrate the program? Does anyone else have a similar problem?

I despise these updates!

  • Test Run Data

So I made 2 quick videos earlier today and captured the GPX data from it. They are attached below. Now an update to my problem: The Circuit shape generated from the GPX is grossly off. As a comparison in the test video, I used the Circuit Shape and Track gauges and they were different. The Circuit Shape gauge only displayed an outer ring of the course where as the Track gauge displayed the correct paths; all the course lines. This discrepancy was repeated in both videos. Could this data be used to help create a fix?

Secondly, I noted the weirdest thing with the VE software. Again, the version is 4.2.1 for Win7. The other problem that I noted is the appearance or disappearance of the compass rose gauge. During the edit of 1 test video, I had the option to add a compass rose to the overlay. There were 2 options available for the compass. The 1st option allows the gauge to stretch across the majority of the video. The 2nd option is a smaller & compact gauge that can be placed in a less conspicuous location. I even created a custom gauge of each.

So the weird part about the compass rose gauges: when I returned to the other video for editing, those 2 gauges were not on the list! Even my "custom" gauges, of which were renamed, disappeared from the list of gauges. When I return to the original test video, these gauge options appeared. Could anyone explain how or why this happens?

Again, thanks to all for reading and a reply.

    Cheers,

  • Does anyone have any knowledge in this area or could offer some recommendations? I reverted back to VE 4.1.1 but did not see an improvement. Perhaps I overlooked something?
  • So I've been in contact with Garmin Tech support agents via email. Based upon the video and data files that I've sent to them, they claim that my camera should be replaced. The reason is the device is capturing inaccurate GPS data. This corruption leads to inaccurate circuit shape and track overlays, losing vehicle speed, and associated data. Hopefully, the replacement unit will correct these problems. More to follow when replacements arrive.
