    Help!

We've just released a minor update 4.1.1 which fixes a few minor issues:

Improved software update for VIRB Cameras
    Various bug fixes
    Various localization fixes

The download link is the same, in-app upgrade will work as well.

I have the virb elite on a Windows 10. Just came back from a cycling holiday, downloaded a week's worth of video, was prompted for the upgrade, and so upgraded. Now, I can start playing the clips, but they crash about 2 minutes in. This is true for clips I imported months ago. I've got video of a cycle trip that I can't play. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing, but get the same result. The vid plays for about 2 minutes before crashing.
  • My experience is different:
Copying the recordings, creating a new video, view some minutes (without any sound). Leaving back to the gallery freezes Edit.
Killing it via TaskManager and restart. Now the sound is back again and I can go on playing around with gauges, cutting and whatever.
Only if I want to return to the gallery, it freezes again. It is not related to a specific duration or something.

Also using Win10 (Not anniversary edition) and the latest Edit Version.

Do you have an AMD Graphics card? I'm seeing the same issue on 2 PCs that are running the latest AMD Drivers. I found uninstalling Plays.tv (program that is installed when installing the latest AMD drivers) gets rid of the VIRB Edit playback crash. Plays.tv runs in the background, if you don't want to uninstall it you can just close it via the taskbar before running VIRB Edit.

Is there a direct link to a previous Windows version, e.g. 4.1.0 or 4.0.0 ?

Luckily I had a copy of the 3.6 installer on a separate computer.
Uninstalling 4.1.1, and then installing 3.6 did the job, and all the videos + overlay run/render correctly now.

Note that I found as there was a database migration from 3.x to 4.x, the new gallery items created in 4.x did not appear, but the recently imported videos were all present.

@apersson850 and @ShSmLondon and others who see crashes during playback:
I am working on the bug in our playback code that is causing this crash. As far as I can tell, it only occurs with your decoder set to ffmpeg. As a work around, if you go to Menu->Settings and set Video Decoder to "Media Foundation" I think the problem goes away (at least I have not observed it after doing so). So far the problem has been pretty elusive, so any details you can give me about your videos would be helpful. Frame rate, resolution, edits you have made (playback speed, rotation, volume, adding music, anything). If you continue to see the crash after switching your decoder settings, that would be helpful for me to know as well. Thank you for your help!

    Hi Purdington

Thanks for helping Purdington. I tried your work around, but my Video Decoder was already set to Media Foundation. The Encoder was set to ffmpeg though. So, I tried changing the encoder to Media Foundation, so that both encoder and decoder were the same. Then I tried making them both ffmpeg. However, the clips continue to crash regardless.

One thing that I forgot to mention (and which the poster above reminded me); the upgrade prompted me to upgrade my drivers. That is, when I selected the Garmin Upgrade, it threw up a message saying that I needed to upgrade my drivers first, and then pushed me to the driver page. From memory (and sorry, it is a bit hazy) there were two prompts, for AMD and something else. However, all roads led back to AMD so to speak, and the AMD drivers were updated. That took AGES.

Re- changes/edits. I've done nothing except import them. I recorded the latest clips over the last 5 days on a cycling holiday in Cornwall. I imported about 30 clips all in one go. So, they're raw.

Below are the settings on the camera - is that what you were after?

    Video
    Mode - fast HD - 720p 16:9 50fps
Field of view - ultra zoom
    Loop - off
    Auto record - off
    Microphone - off
    Format - PAL

    PHOTOS
    Res - 16 pm 4:3
    Burst - off
    Self timer - off
    Date stamp - on

    Advanced
    Lens correct - on
    Stabiliser - on
Flip camera - this side up

    It's the Play TV program

Purdington - turns out Reyntest is bang on the money. He/she reminded me that the virb update had required that I update my drivers, which are AMD. I found the Play TV programme and uninstalled it. My clips now run without a problem.

Thanks for your help everyone. Purdington, I hope that helps in sorting out the bug.

Can you share the Version 3.6 . I am still unable to use Virb Edit 4.1.1. The software stops running at startup..........:p
  • GMetrix Templates & Gauges

    Hi !

    My experience with this 4.1.1:

    Best:
    - Selection and loading gpx file (or fit) is faster than older versions :)
    Worst:
    - Too many problems with GMetrix Templates and Gauges. Gauges Editor its a nightmare, the templates have dissapeared, the dowload of new Gauges does not work for me ..

In general i dont use others new funcionality, for others than yes use it is a possitive version, for me are more problems than benefits :(

    Thanks.
