You can download it at http://www8.garmin.com/support/downl...ls.jsp?id=6591, the in-application update will go live shortly as well.

This is a major release paired with the announcement of the VIRB Ultra 30.

Updates:
  • Allow updating cameras from within the application (without invoking WebUpdater)
  • Auto-create videos based on detected highlights
  • Optimize videos on import to allow for more performant editing
  • VIRB Ultra 30 support:
    • UHD video playback, editing, and export
    • Favorite clips
    • Manual highlights
    • Import camera-generated optimized videos

  • Multi-cam improvements:
    • Picture-in-picture
    • Video mirroring (for reverse cam)
    • Faster, simpler, and more reliable detection

  • Added built-in music tracks to add to videos
  • Added ability to set a point for relative elevation:
    • Elevation shows 0 at that point
    • Can force positive-only numbers

  • Automatically select default template based on available G-Metrix
  • Added optional Garmin-branded videos for export
  • Just installed this to have a look. I have a few questions:

    1) What does the "Optimise videos" on import do? Does it mess with the original file or just do something in the database?
    2) Have the issues with the ffmpeg decoder/encoder been resolved (audio sync)
    3) Where did my custom templates from V3.6 go? How do I get them back?

    Thanks,
    Brett

    1) It creates a new, smaller (720p) copy of the video. You can then optionally use this during playback to greatly reduce the performance hit that occurs when playing large videos. Don't worry though, your source video is unmodified and any exporting/sharing will use the source video. This is purely a playback optimization.
    2) I believe those have been fixed, as much of the implementation has been optimized to support the higher resolution videos.
    3) Your templates should still be there, nothing should have changed in that respect. Do you happen to have telemetry filtering turned on in the settings (Menu->Settings->GMetrix->Overlay Filtering)?

Great! I was waiting for this :D
    Thank you very much!!!

    Thanks alabnebro82!

I've double checked #3 and the overlays are now there. I did a bit of an investigation and noted that there is a slight issue here. I followed the following steps:
    • Open Virb Edit
    • Open existing video (which has G-metrix and uses a custom overlay)
    • Select 'Not now' to the Optimise video query
    • Select 'G-metrix'
    • Select the 'All' dropdown
    • No other options are available
    • Select 'Gauges'
    • Select 'Templates'
    • Now all options are available including 'Custom'

I'm not sure what happened when I tried this morning as I remember the dropdown list of templates showing all but the 'Custom' option. Anyway, they're there now so all is good. Thanks for your help!

As an aside, I've also found that the auto lap and track shape functions are still not working properly as discussed in the following threads:
    Auto lap
    Circuit shape

  • I don´t get how to use Picture in Picture-Mode.

Also my custom Overlays have been gone. Then I activated "Overlay Filtering", deactivated it again. No change.
A restart did the deal! Now they are back again.

Due to Laptime, it seems better then before. But I just checked some older recordings on a racetrack. I´ll try to reproduce Bretts issues on my next ride!

Some gauges have been improved and really look better and more smooth! Great work!
To combine "Overlays" and "G-Metrix" to a single tab, was also an enhancement.

The Map-Tab and the Map-Gauge are showing different finishlines. The gauge-one is right.

    Best regards,
    Tom

It's a Multi-Cam feature. Basically you need to have 2 or more VIRB Cameras, doesn't matter which (Elite, X/XE, Ultra 30). Record clips with 2 or more of the cameras simultaneously (make sure you have a solid GPS lock) then import them into VIRB Edit, when you add the clips to a Video VIRB Edit will detect the clips as "Multi-Cam". Access the "Editing" tab and you'll see some extra settings in there for Multi-Cam (PiP). You'll be able to size, move, mirror the PiP window along with other tweaks (G-Metrix, Audio).
  • Added built-in music tracks to add to videos

I like the possibility to autocrate a clip!

Is it possible to add your own music tracks?
And is it possible to use these tracks for the autocreate proces?

    Optimising Clips

My PC has been Optimising Clips 24/7 for 4 days now, I really should have dons a bit of housekeeping before I started. :o
Oh well it's nearly finished now.
  • I´ve ignored that. My PC is fast enough to show the preview.
Sometimes, after a lot of editing and cutting you will have to leave the current edit back to the gallery. Then reopen it and it´s fast again.
I don´t want to have all the videos twice. This will make sense with 4k recordings from Virb Ultra, but from 1080p down to 720p it´s a waste of time and storage.

Taking Screenshots should always be in the highest available resolution. Currently they are taken from the selected.

Sad that I cannot use my old footage from my GoPro to use picture in picture, which I took for rear view. But understandable from garmin perspective :D
I guess it only works with the remote-feature? A Friend of mine has bought a Virb X and we borrow them each other. Sometimes we are riding together, where the remoting/multi cam feature is not making any sense (to much distance). But it would be nice to combine that recordings also.
Maybe I´ll give it a try at the weekend

@FilipBakker: Yes, below the last Track, there is a "Search" button. With that, you can add your own music.
But in the last versions, you will have quicktime to be installed.

No, multi-cam also works without using the remote-feature. You just have to make sure all the VIRB Camera's you want to include in the multi-cam recording have a solid GPS lock (GPS icon on the camera is solid and not blinking) and the timezones match in each camera's settings then start recording with all cameras at the same time.
