Migrating data between laptops

I am in a slight pickle.

I have a lot of video and Gmetrix data i imported from my Virb XE into my Ulrabook (Windows 10 , 64 bit, CPU i5 8Gb RAM....but no GPU which I now see as a "minimum requirement)

More exports fail than work looking like assorted ffmpeg errors.

I have the mp4 files but I don't have the original Gmetrix data. I guess that is stored in Virb libraries when I imported from the Virb XE (under C:\Users\Ian\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\VIRB Edit\Database\4\GMetrix\3908776231 ?)

An older Laptop with a slower CPU seems to export OK. Can I migrate the Gmetrix Data from one laptop to the other and somehow keep the association with the correct mp4 clips ?

Wil copying the database GMetrix, Rawmovies & MovieProjects work ?
  • If the folder structures are the same on both laptops it should work fine. If not, you'll need to edit the xml files in the appdata area to point to the correct location of the mp4 files. From memory Virb Edit will complain when you load it up if it can't find the files. It'll then let you manually reassign the mp4 files.

It would be worth confirming that the final folder names don't conflict (in your example that's '3908776231'). They should be unique but if they are the same it'll overwrite other data.

    Hope that helps,
    Brett

VIRB Edit added a backup/restore feature for that purpose.

    1. Backup your data on PC A(this will only update metadata like your projects, G-Metrix, etc., not the actual videos and photos).
    2. Copy the backup file to PC B.
    3. Copy your videos and photos from PC A to PC B.
    4. Install VIRB Edit on PC B and restore the backup.

If the paths of videos/photos are not exactly the same, we won't find them right away. But VIRB Edit should prompt you to locate them.

    Good luck!
  • Doh !

Sorry, I should have spotted that.

Thanks Falgar, just the job !
