Exporting G-Metrix to CSV

I'm a university researcher who is planning to do a study on road safety based on data from a garmin VIRB X. The plan is to merge the GPS time stamp with data from other sensors into a CSV that can be analysed for our project.

Is there a way to export VIRB data to an excel file?

I tried using the .fit file extension and TCX converter but this resulted in a file with not enough data points (one every 3 seconds instead of the many per second garmin collects) and lacks the GPS time and other information collected by the garmin.

Is there any way I could get at this data? Where is it stored, in the 1.3meg FIT file or somewhere else?

The only other option I can think of is to export the video and then use third party software to scrape it off the video - has anybody ever tried that?

Check out https://www.thisisant.com/resources/fit/. This let's you download the FIT SDK, which contains a Java tool that dumps FIT into csv.

However, some of the data will be hard to make sense of without post-processing (stuff like accelerometer e.g.). Others like speed, heart-rate etc. should be fairly straight-forward.
