You can download it at http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=6591, the in-application update will go live shortly as well.

This is a fairly small update. We improved handling of some G-Metrix data types and added support for Cycling Dynamics sensors (Power phase, platform center offset, rider seated/standing time).

  • Added support for cycling dynamics.
  • Added elevation filtering based on accuracy of GPS signal.
  • Speed from an external speed sensor, if one is attached, is now displayed over speed from GPS.
  • Improved performance when using the ffmpeg decoder.
  • Fixed an issue where no video was displayed when we had trouble reading audio.
  • Fixed issue with static sound in audio during a video transition using the ffmpeg decoder.

That doesn't look right. Looks like pretty much all the templates are gone.

Did you try the setting I was talking about?

    And does uninstalling/reinstalling change anything?
  • The setting doesn´t change anything. Beside the fact, that I got all Virb & OBD G-Metrix in that video.
When selecting the G-Metrix tab, I can access all Gauges.

I´ll try to reinstall Edit. Just wanted to avoid that :)

[EDIT] Reinstalled the latest version and now I could use that checkbox! It immediately shows/hides the overlay, which contain one or more gauges, which don´t have any value.
I´d suggest only to hide the gauges without any data, but not the overlays. My approach is to select the closest overlay to my needs and delete the one or more gauges without data.
-> Just my two cents :)
  • I´ve found two little things, which were not working right.
The OBD-Speed is never getting down to 0km/h. GPS Speed goes down to 0 and OBD stays at the last known value. Sometimes 3, sometimes 7.
That can be related to the Virb or the smoothing of Virb Edit. I don´t really know.

But the most annoying thing is the video sorting. Today I made a ride for about 2 hours and got 25 videos (Auto Pause activated).
After importing them, I am able to select all today imported and right click to create a new video.
It starts with the last video first and goes on the first video is located to the last position.
The same happens, if you create a new clip first and select several recordings from media library.

To avoid that, is to drag the recordings one by another manually. But that is not working better. Sometimes the library gets scrolled down, if you drag a video down to the timeline. But you cannot scroll up again by scrollwheel. So you have to click on the scrollbar which lost the focus on the last selected video. Now you are not sure which was the last dropped one :(
If the Name is to long (which mostly the same for a day and a bit unnecessary) you don´t see the counter at the end. That doesn´t help either.

It would be great to see that a bit improved

Thanks for the feedback! We we able to reproduce the sorting issues. There was one involving clicking the "Select All" button and another involving the "Recently Imported" grouping. Both issues should be fixed for the next release.
  • Hello,
I´ve been on a racetrack again, last week.
Got a lot of footage, which I sighted at the weekend.

My startingpoint is not the same, all the time. Sometimes I´ll start at the paddock, we´ll have to wait next to the racetrack entrance or at the pitlane (turning on the Virb takes some seconds).
Cutting that part off, to make the startingpoint identically, will confuse the laptime, finish line and sometimes kill the map (Just a circle left).

Adding several videos from that day, will create a unique lapcounter, best time, etc. for each recording. I´m sure some will say that is right, some wont :)
Removing parts, will remove the round time, lap and stuff mentioned before. There are many cases where that is right, too. But assumed I´d like to cut my best lap, I´d like to see the whole lapcounter, the last best lap, the time of the complete turn, the finishline where it is.
You can only archive that by exporting the entire recording (several hours exporting) and cut the interesting part afterwards (rendering again).

    • Removing videos or parts of them should ask if G-Metrix data will be kept. That would be a huge improvement and everybody can decide on their own, what fits best :)
    • Also, it should be possible to decide if the G-Metrix will be combined or separate for every recording.

For my approach, it would be close to perfect then

If wanted, I can upload my videos + G-Metrix to reproduce that behaviour.

In my racing, cars are formed up on a false grid, normally on a location adjacent to the track itself. Cars are given a 5 minute warning so drivers can get themselves properly secured in their cars and get their engines restarted. There is a 1 minute warning when the grid officials perform a final, visual check of the the required safety equipment. Then the cars are released on track, in most instances behind the timing line. I turn my VIRB Elite on at the 5 minute warning and the complete securing myself in the car. I leave the false grid with the rest of the pack and as a consequence I will have about 5 minutes of video prior to the car moving.

My on track session is recorded in continuous time until I come off the track and return to my paddock area. After I Import the file(s) for the session into VIRB Edit, I apply my 'Overlay' which contains laps and lap time apps, VIRB Edit asks me to set the starting location - I will cursor move the video until I detect car movement, then I use the frame advance arrow on the edit screen to advance the video to the correct starting point and then click the start button for that location. VIRB Edit will then apply the proper timing and lapping to the entire video. After the proper start location is identified, further editing can be done - including splitting the video beyond the start location and then eliminating the video from the start of the video proper to the point one desires to start the Export portion of the file. On can also edit off the end of the video to eliminate it from the Export portion.
  • Hi mmi16,

thank you for explaining your usage! Sounds like it works like a charm for you :)

I own the X(E), where is no need to set the start location manually. The Video and G-Metrix is married by a unique id (not the timestamp, as I read somewhere here).
    Maybe that affect a difference.
Furthermore, the XE has a feature "auto. recording", which starts and stops recording while standing still. That works great, when I stop close to the finishline, on the pitlane. But sometimes I forget to stop there again after the turn (or something happened and you have to leave the pitlane immediately).
In that cases I have to cut the video and the finishline moves its location. Also Lap- and Best time will change (mostly).

The pitlane (most of the time) leads to the track after the finishline.

I will investigate if it will make any differences, when I import the gmetrix, and set the starting point manually.
