Help... Having to manually find and import G-Metrix file when importing videos

Hello. I have the latest software 3.5 and the virb XE. I am importing videos but the gmetrix is not automatically importing the gmetrix file. I am having to move the video clip to the movie stream and then having to cross reference times and duration of the gmetrix file and then importing the gmetrix file. Am i missing a step on why the gmetrix file is not automatically importing the gmetrix file with the video?

You are importing them directly from the VIRB XE (and not copying the videos first to your hard drive and 'Import Other')?

If so, then yes, we should be automatically pulling in the G-Metrix for you.

If you could share the content of your card's G-Metrix folder, as well as one video file then I could take a look what might be going wrong.

After further analyzing file details, does the software recognize time stamps to import the gmetrix with the video or do you know how the algorithm is ran to do that automatically like it should? I noticed that there are some .fit files (4 that were created before my first video file) that are not associated with any video files as seen in my screen capture.

i will need to upload a video file and send u a pm to that and the gmetrix folder.

We only use timestamps as a last resort because they are not as reliable as you might think. The video & GPS processor on the VIRBs are running on different clocks. One uses local time, while the other uses UTC. Poor GPS reception might also give you bad times.

That is why we rely on messages in the FIT files to link to the appropriate MP4.

It is quite likely that you have FIT files that aren't associated with any MP4. VIRB writes out a FIT file even if you're not recording any video. It should be one FIT file per session (one session being the time the camera was powered on).

I'll definitely take a look at your files once I have them.
  • We are having the same issue. We are taking the mini-SD card out of the VIRB XE and putting in a Mac. The VIRB software auto detects the memory card and asks to import. After import of the video, when you click on Gmetrix in the software, it says there aren't any files. If you manually navigate back to same card it just imported from then they can be found there. It would seem that there's an extra step in there.

    Thoughts?

That sounds curious. Unfortunately I cannot really help without having access to the data. If you can share the contents of the SD card somehow, we should be able to find out what's going on.
