    Hi!,

Both in the previous update and in this version, export video becomes very very very very ... slow (+1 hour - for each 1% !!!).

Fortunately, I have the 3.1.0.2 installable which is used so far without problems.

I installed this version because I read "Fixed playback speed in export issues" and thought it would correct this, I did not read well. I return to my 3.1.0.2 which is exported at a reasonable speed (+1 minute per 1%, 1080HD - 50fps)

    Regards.

    1.54 fps

It's not really that slow (1 % per hour), but calling it fast would be an exaggeration, too. Just to illustrate it:

I let Virb Edit export a time-lapse video with some overlays (speed, height, temperature, heart rate) using an Intel Core i7 running on ~2.2 GHz (4 cores, 8 threads). The video contains 15106 frames, each one showing 1920x1080 pixels. Computing all the data in highest quality and writing the video on a SSD took Virb Edit 2:44 h which results in 1.54 fps, i. e. 3 images per 2 seconds.
When the codec is set to the lowest quality the over all render frame rate results in 27.2 fps (about 18x faster than for highest quality).

    Can anybody confirm those figures?

    Hi,

I also noticed a slower export speed compared to previous versions I used.

In the mean time with these incremental releases I also hoped that some issues should have been solved, 2 things that bother me for some time now.

    1. Elevation graph plotted against distance instead of time, has been on request for some time and multiple users will like this, see this thread.
    2. Trackline in video is deformed (height to width ratio is wrong) , see this thread, and this image example side by side map and trackline, trackline is compressed vertically.

is this on the priority list?

    Regards Erik

    All,
In regards to export speed, the export quality you choose has a much larger impact on how long export takes than it did in previous versions. In particular, choosing "Max" will cause export to take many times longer than your original video. In most cases, medium quality is visually indistinguishable from max quality, and it tends to export pretty close to real time (ie 30 seconds of export for 30 seconds of video) depending on your hardware, making it a very good balance between quality and speed. Calling the setting "Medium" is not especially accurate as it will actually give you a very good quality video. This is why we chose it as the default. Unless you absolutely must squeeze out every bit of quality you can, I strongly suggest using the default quality setting for your exports.

    @Silvertrophy
The numbers you are seeing are pretty close to what we would expect. You will also observe that the performance difference between high and max is much larger than the difference between high and medium or medium and low.

I am afraid there is no fix in sight for #1 but we'll try to do something about #2 in 3.4.

    Thank you for your feedback.

This statement is true for simple clips.
But for a 25 min video (composed of 10 clips some of them resynched, with overlay, 1080p, 60fps, quality medium) it took more than 5 hours in a quad core 1,8ghz computer... not usable. I will revert to version 2.1
  • Sorry Garmin but NO, ITS NOT USABLE version

Like Xxxzanka said: It is not usable version to export videos of 2-3 hours.

As i said in previous replies, in 3.1 versión my videos of 2-3 hours of road bike route, with speed, distance and map overlay, in 1080p - 50 fps, the export time is, aprox, 1% each 2 minutes. With this last version, same kind of routes's videos, with same overlay, 1080P - 50fps AND MEDIUM QUALITY as you said to me, it is now exporting ¡10% in 1 hour! Yes, medium quality is 'faster' than maximum quality, but is sloooooooooow sloooooow option too.

I will revert to 3.1 and i will not update until i see as a bug fixed in other futher version.
  • v3.x GPX synch with multiple video files

I have 3 one hour video files and a single 3 hour GPX file. In the 2.xx Virb this worked - the overlays went from 1 to 2 to 3 hours of elapsed overlay data.

Now what happens is that at 1 hours it starts back over with data from hour 0, and same at 2 hours.

This is clearly a bug with the new Version 3.0 synchronization. :(

Did you try to change the settings to metric under Menu > Settings > Units?
