Have you tried updating your graphics card drivers? Many people who experience this problem find that downloading the latest driver from AMD fixes this problem. Let me know if that works for you.
Thanks for the reply, yes I have the AMD catalyst drivers installed - very frustrating - I was really looking forward to watching overlays on the video

Similar setup and same problem with new Virb Elite Virb Edit software. I have deleted software/files several times and reloaded and same issue. Very frustrating. This seems to be a fairly common issue. Has there been any correction for this yet?
