Multiple Camera Sybchronization problem.

So... I'm new here and I need some serious help. I have a VIRB, and a VIRB Elite.

I am trying to get the "Multi-camera Synchronization" to work. I called Garmin, and they said I should have it now, but I don't.

With the new models it mentions that it uses GPS timestamps to do it (see attached picture), so I thought maybe that is the issue since my VIRB doesn't have GPS.

I called Garmin again and asked if this could be the problem (they said it could be), and I asked if I could just export the .gpx file from my VIRB Elite, and import it too my VIRB video file. They said that will work.

It didn't, and I have no idea how to make this work short of using multiple programs, or buying another VIRB Elite to replace my VIRB. And if I'm buying hardware I'll give in and buy Go-Pros to replace both of mine.

So does anyone have any ideas?
  • The standard import should work fine for this in the next release of VIRB Edit (3.0) for any videos that start/stop within a couple seconds of each other. The easiest way to do that is to use the VIRB Mobile app to start/stop recording on all of your devices at the same time. VIRB Edit 3.0 is not released yet! It's planned to be released before the VIRBX, which is what that screenshot you attached is discussing.

If you're using a VIRB Basic, you'll have to manually assign the G-Metrix (GPX/FIT file) from your VIRB Elite to the VIRB Basic's videos and then "G-Metrix Sync" to set the correct start time for your video and sensor data.

VIRBX or VIRB Elite cameras' footage will always have a G-Metrix log to go with your videos, though, so that'll be a lot easier.
  • So... I'm running 3.2.0 and it still doesn't work.
  • I looked into this, and it looks like there's a bug that's preventing VIRB Basic videos from working with Multi-Cam. We should have this fixed shortly, thanks for pointing it out!

Generally speaking, Multi-Cam works best with VIRBX/XE and VIRB Elite videos, since they have the GPS timestamp. For VIRB Basic videos, we can only go by the creation date of the video, which will be less precise. We have plans to improve the feature in the future, but I can't give a concrete timeframe. (I will be pointing at this thread when arguing about feature priorities though!)
