VIRB GPS and Video out of sync

I bought the basic VIRB as it can be controlled via the Edge. I have my Edge starting the VIRB when I start recording on the Edge but when I add the video & fit file together they are not in sync.

How do I fix this as I was under the impression that they should be in sync? That is why I replaced my GoPro with the VIRB as I was struggling to get the files lined up.

The VIRB records metadata that allows its onboard GPX/FIT files to sync with video to the nearest millisecond. We're planning to use that same metadata to improve the alignment of GPS logs recorded on other devices in the future, but at present other GPS logs just attempt to align based on the creation date of the movie.

I see, thanks, but shouldn't the video and the GPS recording on the Edge both have the same creation date/time anyway as the video is started by the edge?

That's what I expected, but I've not found a way to ensure that the time on the Virb is in sync with the Edge to anything more than a rough attempt at manually syncing it.

What a PITA this turns out to be. So, I record my ride, which the VIRB breaks down into 20ish minute clips, having imported all of the clips I then have to align the GPS file to each and every clip individually, even though it would make sense to assume that they would all have the same offset applied.

Surely it would make more sense to be able to import all of the clips and apply a single GPS file to them all, then align the GPS data just the once.

We're aware that aligning a GPS track to multiple clips (especially ones that were auto-split by the VIRB) is not as seamless as it should be. We have a plan in place that should make this significantly better in our next feature release of VIRB Edit. Sorry for any inconvenience this causes in the mean time.
