VIRB Edit messes with GPX data

I have a few videos that preview correct in the library but as soon as I add them to a project the speed gets cut by about 1/4. 190 MPH becomes 40MPH.

I can recreate it with any of these clips even if I create a new project.

I'm running 2.8.0

Suggestions?

FIT was originally designed to support fitness data. It has a max speed of ~140 mph at present. While GPX files don't have this limitation, we usually let the FIT data your VIRB is recording in the background override that because it's usually more accurate. We also use the FIT file for neat things like filling in gaps between your clips. In this case it just messes up your speed values, though. We're sorry about that :(.

This is a known issue, but in the meantime the best workaround is to stop VIRB Edit from automatically matching your GPX data to FIT files when you're editing or exporting a project that goes faster than this max speed.

The easiest way (will hide FIT files from VIRB Edit that you may actually want):
    1) Quit VIRB Edit if it's open.
    2) Go to /users/YOUR_USERNAME/Library/Application Support/Garmin/VIRB Edit/0/
    3) Rename the folder FIT to something else.
    4) Start VIRB Edit.
    5) Edit and export your project with these recordings of yourself being fast
    6) Before the next time you open VIRB Edit, rename that folder back to FIT if you'd like to edit something that's got slower speeds in it ( < 140 MPH )

The more complicated, but less blunt way (requires VIRB Edit 2.9, allows you to remove the specific problem FIT file):
    1) Quit VIRB Edit if it's open.
    2) Right click on the movie that has this problem in your clip library and click "Get Info"
    3) Click on the "GPS Logs" tab
    4) Click "export" and take note of that filename
    5) Dig around in that /users/YOUR_USERNAME/Library/Application Support/Garmin/VIRB Edit/0/FIT/ directory structure and find the specific FIT file with that filename and delete it.
    6) Start VIRB Edit and do your editing.

Sorry about this bug! Hopefully this helps you get the speed data you want back in your video, though.
