Virb gps data missing after X seconds

I recently purchased a new Virb Elite to replace one I lost, and I'm not sure if the device is defective or if it's the software. Basically, my problem is that the gps data/overlay is there for about 45s to 1 min, but then it completely cuts off and the video plays with no data at all. This happens for both the preview (just clicking on the thumbnail and seeing the default overlays) as well as in the Create Video area with custom overlays. I've tried formatting the SD card, checked all the settings, etc. but it still doesn't work. Should I try anything else before trying a new Virb?

Thanks,
Steve.

So it appears the .gpx files are all there, but for some reason, Virb Edit only displays data for the first .gpx. For example, I have a 20 min video clip, see about 37 .gpx files, but Edit only shows data from the first one. I tried multi-selecting all the files to import into Edit, but wasn't able to. Can someone from Garmin please let me know what to do? It worked fine with the previous Virb so I feel like it's the camera or Edit. FWIW, I tried uninstalling Virb (mac) and reinstalling, also factory reset the Virb.

You should only have one GPX file per video clip on your VIRB Elite. The idea is that each GPX file encompasses the track data of the video clip it's paired with.

GEOMONSTER mentioned similar issues and said that VIRB Edit 2.8.0 somehow fixed his problems, though. Is that the case for you, as well?

Our VIRB device forums will be able to offer better support for any potential device-end issues: https://forums.garmin.com/forumdisplay.php?482-VIRB
  • No, I never said it fixed my issue with the discontinuous track, and in fact 2.8.0 has not fixed it at all. I tried two video clips recorded today and the first had 21 minutes of track associated with a 35 minute clip; the second clip, a 50 minute one, had 3 minutes of track shown.

So 2.8.0 definitely did not fix the issue.

I have 83 track files associated with today's recording, 10 video files. (But I also took about 75 pictures while recording video. I wonder if that might have anything to do with it?)

Oh jeez, I mis-read someone else's post. Apologies.

OKAMOTOS: Thanks to GEOMONSTER's feedback, we're currently investigating whether taking photos "splits" your GPX track files. Is that the case for you? We're still investigating, but testing to see if a video you didn't take photos during has this same issue would help confirm things in the meantime.

Yes, I have been taking photos while the video is recording. I just picked up another Virb as I thought it was a bad unit, but I'll test this out tomorrow without taking any pictures and will post back.

    No problem, of course.

Sure hope picture taking is causing the track issue, and that it'll be fixed soon.

So I set up both cameras on my commute in to work (~23min) and it looks like the GPS data is good throughout the entire trip on BOTH units. I didn't take any pics.

On my way home tonight, I'll record my commute but will take 5 pics on one camera but not the other. If that camera has 5 different .gpx files, it (probably) means the pictures are messing up the .gpx saving.
