how do I add a still image to my video?

I see how to grab a frame from the video, but how do I make it available to add to the timeline like I can for a video?

The import tool allows only video files to be imported. jpeg and other image formates files are "greyed out" and so can't be selected.

I know this must be simple, but I'm missing it.

VIRB Edit has no such function at the moment.
You will need another program to convert a still into a clip.
You will probably need to convert this clip to the proper mp4 format (x264/aac) before VIRB Edit will import it.
