VIRB Edit Clip Library Numbering Broken w/ Multiple VIRB's & VIRB Basic Date Issue

I'll try again since my original thread was deleted...

.. anyone else having this problem?

I have two VIRB's that I mount on my bike (front & back facing). When I import the clips the actual filesystem files get numbered sequentially VIRB0001, VIRB0002, and so on. But inside VIRB Edit in the clip library the clip numbers do not match the filesystem file names. Instead VIRB Edit will give identical numbers to clips making it very difficult to edit. So I will end up with VIRB0198 from yesterday and VIRB0198 from today. It would appear to me that the clip library cant' deal with multiple VIRB's correctly.

If I delete the clip library and re-import everything the clip numbers will match up, until my next import from both cameras.

I am also having a problem with my VIRB Basic with the date/time, after each power cycle it loses the correct year. I will manually set the year to 2014 and after the next power cycle the year will be 2013.

Maybe a potential new feature would be to sync the date through Garmin VIRB Edit to ensure it is correct for the Basic units since they can't get the date/time from GPS.

Thanks,

Jeff

Is this a problem in the current version (2.6.0) of Mac VIRB Edit? We've been unique-ifying filenames when importing them for some time now, so I'd be surprised if this kind of thing was still an issue.

We check the file creation time and file name of the movie before importing to ensure that it's actually unique, so if two devices happen to be exactly synced for their file numbering and date, you may have problems. I think that this could be a problem for you specifically because your device is failing to remember what date it is whenever it powers on, increasing the likelihood that you'll have multiple videos with the same (erroneous) time stamp.

    PAXTER1,

Yes, VIRB Edit 2.6.0 and both VIRB's are 3.8.0 firmware.

    PAXTER1,

Another thing to add is that both VIRB's are triggered to record at the exact same time from my 810. The 810 is the remote for the Elite and the Basic is a slave of the Elite. So files are generated at the almost exact same time. I have to reset the year every time I power up the Basic since it isn't storing the year correctly.

I import the Elite (front cam) first, and then the Basic (back cam) second. So I would expect the Elite to be VIRB0001, VIRB0002, VIRB0003, VIRB0004 and then the Basic to be VIRB0005, VIRB0006, VIRB0007, VIRB0008. But that is not what is happening in clip library.. while on the actual filesystem they are sequential correctly.

    [edit]

After reviewing our uniqueness check, it appears that we only check the file size and time stamp. Do the files that are being mis-numbered in this fashion have the same file size and time stamp? The odds of the file size being identical between two different videos, even when they're of the exact same length, seems exceptionally small when they're compressed on write.

    PAXTER1,

I gave up and went back to iMovie and now only use VIRB Edit to add gauges if I need to. I did see that I wasn't losing my mind with my VIRB Basic though and that the 3.90 firmware fixes the 2013 year issue.

In another thread there was the discussion why the FIT's have a long name containing time and date and the .MP4 are in 8.3 format.
As changing the firmware to record video with long names might be hard to do, the question was that maybe VIRB Edit could change the VIRB0xxx.MP4 into long FIT-like names during import.
Maybe this multy VIRB setup would also benefit.
