GPS Data not showing in Virb Edit

Hi,

I have just imported some new clips, when I preview them the speed and other GPS related data show absolutely fine. However when I add the clip to a video none of the GPS data show, just blank values. I have tried adding different gauges, adjusting the GPS track etc and nothing seems to work. I haven't had this problem before, just on my most recent import. I have exported the video hoping it would be ok when this was done, I get the GPX track exported but again the video does not show any data? Any ideas? Virb is on 3.8.0 and Virb Edit, Mac 2.6.0.

Thanks

I'll repeat my inquiry from the thread SCHINDER linked. It'd be nicer to have the issue discussed in this thread, any way :):

Have you tried going into the Edit tab>GPS Log>Adjust... settings after going into edit mode? Does the track there look like the track you'd expect, and does altering that default alignment have any affect on your issue?

The only difference between the clip library preview and edit mode I can think of is that we try to match the video to your VIRB Elite's FIT tracks, which is how we can have multiple clips pointing at the same FIT file.
  • Any proper solution to this yet?
Clearly a bug in EDIT mode as all data is there but is just not showing. Splitting clips sometimes makes the data show on the second part of the split. But really, I don't want to split my videos and only get 1/2 video showing data... So get it fixed please.

What alternatives are there to VIRB EDIT?

    Hi,

I have tried this yes and the track looks exactly as I would I expect. I have adjusted it slightly so the track is then inaccurate but just to see if it made a difference but still no data was displayed. I have even completely removed the gps track and re-added it but the issue was the same after doing that as well.

    Thanks

Is this a bug? Can someone from Garmin please respond

I also have this issue. I just bought this camera before going on a cycling holiday 2 weeks ago. The reason I purchased the Virb Elite over the other options was for the GPS info overlays and now this feature does not work!

I feel like I've been mis-sold as Garmin specifically mention the ability to reveal sensor information in the videos!

If this is a bug in this version of Virb Edit how could they have allowed it to be released with such a fundamental flaw? Do they have an ETA on a new version of the software that corrects this issue. Do I have to just leave these files on my device in the hope that a future version of the software will work as advertised?

For the Garmin tech people my specs are as follows:

    OSX 10.9.4
    Edge 800 - v2.70
    Virb Elite - v3.80
    Virb Edit - v2.6.0
I also have a Garmin speed/cadence sensor that both the Edge and Virb Elite communicate with.

Below is a screenshot of a video being played from the clip library - as you can see there is GPS info displayed.

Below is a screenshot if the SAME video file being played after being played via the 'Create a Video' option - as you can see there is no GPS info being displayed although the file icon does have the little symbol in the top-right corner to indicate that there is GPS info.

Can someone from Garmin please respond to this thread with clarification as this is a major flaw with the product unless I'm missing an option somewhere!
  • here is a workaround which works for me: set your VIRB to only save GPS data when recording. Sensor info will then show in Create Video mode.

    Cheers

I called Garmin to ask for the previous version until they fix this bug (close to 45 min on the phone), but in case anyone else wants to back-rev their install, https://www.dropbox.com/sh/0kklxycmiffvzk0/AADPPP2gYl8Ni2lDTtzSL7I1a

Is just using Mac VIRB Edit 2.5.2 instead of 2.6.0 really fixing this issue? Knowing that much would help narrow down our investigation of this issue a lot.

Are those of you experiencing this issue having it with all imported movies, or just those you've assigned other devices' tracks to in edit mode? It reads like this is an issue the moment you go to "Create Video" for a clip, and I've been considering that angle, but I'm also noticing a strange amount of you saying that you're using Edges.

There's a workaround I think you guys can try in VIRB Edit, but it will break the automatic sharing of your VIRB Elite tracks between multiple clips:

Be sure to turn this setting back on once this issue is fixed in the next version of VIRB Edit.

I've found an issue, and hopefully it is what you guys are experiencing. Sometimes the gray "background" track is shaped differently than the black "clip" track, and in that case our lookup for the telemetry data can potentially fail:

I believe this is what AUTOFIL was describing in this thread.

It may be difficult to notice this on longer GPS logs, but if you have shorter logs, you will probably be able to notice the two lines diverging. If that's the issue you guys are encountering, then that's good news, because it seems very well diagnosed on our end at the moment.
  • That isn't what I'm seeing, on the clip preview and when added to the video the both line up. I don't get the red dot when it is added to the video though, but I do on the preview of the clip:-

Also to answer your earlier question, this was absolutely fine on previous version of Virb Edit and all the videos I added before work fine, just new ones I create don't show gps data.
