Discontinuous distance/duration over clip transition

I took my VIRB Elite out today on a mountain bike ride since I had upgraded it to 3.7 and wanted to try it out. Video mode 1080p@30fps, UltraZoom with lens correction and stabilization on. The VIRB performed flawlessly. I got a low battery warning at about 1 hour 45 minutes but it continued running until I turned it off at 1:54:58.

So I got it home, imported the video into VIRB Edit 2.4, and put the 5 clips together into a project. My custom template includes the distance and duration counters (you need a transparent duration counter, by the way). The problem is that at the transition from the first to second clip, both distance and duration reset to zero. I've seen this before when I've had trouble with the VIRB (freezes) even if the transition occurred before the freeze, but I've never seen it for a continuous video that was recorded successfully. Clearly this is a problem with VIRB Edit 2.4, so I'm going to keep this video and the GPS tracks around until 2.5 comes out, but I just wanted to report the problem. I don't know why it should do that, especially since distance/duration is fine at all of the other clip transitions.
  • I'm unclear on expected behavior here. Imagine I go for a ride one day and stop for lunch:

I turn the camera off while at lunch to conserve battery. When I put the clips together I would like the distance to be contiguous but, at present, the mileage restarts from zero.

To solve the problem, I use data from the Garmin GPS that I had running for the entire trip after doing a join on the pieces. I then select the clip and reset the activity start point to the beginning point of the day. But I have to repeat this for every clip. If I am making the video from a photo taken every minute, this means I have a lot of work to do.

So the question would be - why does join in Garmin GPS Basecamp recognize that the distance is contiguous for joined items but Verb Edit uses different logic?

Alternatively, is there a way to select and change the start point for multiple clips?

Or is the only fix for the contiguous distance/time to leave the camera on while during stops?
  • Workaround

I have the same issue. Maybe I found a workaround.
I have multiple .fit files related to one activity, by the way not the same number as the number of clips. So I tried to connect all .fit files into one. To do that I use "Fit File Repair Tool" software, open the first .fit file, then the second in "append" mode, then the third and so on until I append all .fit files. I then save the complete .fit file, and I replace, clip by clip, all the G-Metrix sources with the complete one. It works, now duration and distance is correct.
