I'm seeing the same lockup - 40% left on SD Card, 2 hrs. indicated on battery - recorded about 23 mins.

I've not seen this dump in elog.txt before so that must be new with3.70.
My camera is on the way but I have had several issues like this with devices in the past. If there is a factory reset you can do in the menus on the camera, do it, then attempt the upgrade. Let us know the results.
Sometimes settings or info gets written or there is still info in RAM and causes updates to fail. Try it out.
I've updated to 3.7. So far it's been fine - but tomorrow I'm doing a ~100km bike ride so it will get a good test. My one observation was that this morning I did a 50km ride and by the end I was getting low battery warnings. I don't remember that happening so soon.
Is it possible the new firmware makes a greater drain on the battery?
It can be that 3.70 has it's alarm earlier. I've done a ride today and a test yesterday to see if I still had problems with the remote loosing it's connection with the VIRB Elite. In the end it lost it's connection, but it was caused by the VIRB switching off. I noticed it was a clean switch-off, the video ended where ther FIT and the GPX ended. Maybe they needed this extra battery time to be sure the switch-off was clean, even when you ignore the warnings. I can see only the VIRB's shadow when I ride (and the sun shines), so no warnings for me.
