My VIRB Elite Still Locks up all the time

I shouldn't say all the time, some days it works fine, but a lot of the time, it locks up.

If your unit does NOT lock up, what memory card do you use?

Brand
Size
Speed

Oh - and do you use any sensors?
I use a HRM and Speed and Cadence Sensor

The memory card I have is:

It apparently is 10MB/s WRITE speed.

Here's my situation:

Thanks,

Does it also has the USB problem?
When the battery is not fully charged mine sees the USB as external power or after going into USB mode it shuts down.
Luckily this does not happen all the time, but enough to become very irritating.
  • to be fair, I haven't used it that much, but I have not had any USB issues, even though the display can be on or off or whatever when charging, but it does charge using an Apple iPad charger.

    I'm on my 3rd also having issues:mad:
  • I find it a little hard to believe it's the Virb's fault at this point. What are the odds on that?

I think you need to check the other variables.

    can you do a test?
Place the VIRB Elite in a place with poor GPS reception.
    Turn it on.
Set it to record using the remote and leave it for an hour or so.
After an hour check if the VIRB Elite is still responsive.
Do the test a couple of times.
I have also done it with GPS off, after half an hour it didn't reponded to the VIRB Remote.
    Maybe it's a batch.
    My serial numbers are:
    1st: 3AP043541 used with Sandisk SDXC 64GB
    2nd: 3AP039827 used with Kingston SDXC 64GB
3rd: 3AP086260 used with Kingston SDXC 64GB, Kingston SDHC 32GB, Sandisk SDXC 64GB
  • I will try it today, I think the Video will be corrupt so its impossible to tell exactly how long time before it crashes.

well not looking good... garmin sent a full, new unit in the box to replace my old (a month or so is old?!) one and my first mtb ride out and it locked up about the 43min mark. luckily i stopped about 47mins in (according to my 810 which im scared to even try pairing with the elite!) and noticed it had stopped recording.

updated to 3.2 before i used it.
    32gb EXTREME class 10 SD
recoding in 720p 60fps with stabilization on

loading to virb edit now. it did record a 30min+ clip after that so ill see if it lost all of the first footage and what is salvagable.

    not happy.

    *update*

looks like the 1st clip got big enough size wise that it created a 27min06sec clip that was usable. on that same recording, it was working on another file of similar size i guess when it locked up and that clip was 0:00 aka not usable. after that it created 2 more clips (off one record) and both are usable 27:06 and 13:02 (i cut it off).

also noticed that with the 3 usable clips i have (2nd one was the 0:00), only the last 2 are giving me gpx info in virb edit. im guessing something went foul with the gpx on the 1st record (1st 2 clips)

while this is better than the last unit i had, interested to see if this continues... its not acceptable if it does.
  • I tried this today, I placed the virb indoors in a window, I then started recording from my Edge, It recorded a video of 1 hour and 5 minutes, I stopped recording and took some pictures, the started recording again until the Virb died because of a dead battery.

I wonder if it has to do with Vibrations that makes it crash? Geomonster who uses his virb only in car and motorbike probably wont see as much Vibrations as there is on a mtb. Maybe vibrations caused the virb to have connection issues with its battery or memory card or whatever? I have never recorded for one hour without problem on bike.

My current one was laying still, in the house behind the window.
    One time it was frosen.
One time it didn't reacted to the remote that still was binking (red, recording video).
One time the remote stopped blinking while the VIRB Elite kept on recording.
We don't have earthquackes here :) so no real vibrations or shocks.
At other times it kept on recording as it should.
The first one lost the remote when it was on my helmet. (and didn't want to go to USB mode)
The second one lost connection when lying on a shelf with the remote on top of it. (also started up with a black screen regularly)
This one has no issues with the USB (so far).
