Virb Edit v2.4.0, GoPro3+ Black 720p video, Garmin Edge 500. Data sync issue

Was so stoked to learn about Garmin Virb Edit software. Finally figured I'd have a solution for overlaying data from my bike rides over video from my GoPro3+ Black.

Having huge data sync issues however.

When I start my rides, I am starting the Edge and the GoPro simultaneously. Yet when I overaly the data, no data begins showing until something like 12 seconds after the video starts. If I attempt to sync the data to a later frame of the video, the data is just not right. It appears that data is moving faster than the video... the video location is not the same as what the data is indicating.

So I have no clue what's going on but I am using a 32GB SanDisk Ultra card in my GoPro.

Very frustrating.
  • At what frame rate does the GoPro record? VIRB video is usually 30 fps (although there are other settings). That may be the cause of your problem.

I hadn't thought of that. I will have to double-check to be sure, but I think I was recording at 720p and I believe it might be 60fps.

As discussed here, we have an unfortunate bit of misbehavior for videos that aren't 30 FPS at the moment. Future versions of Mac VIRB Edit should address this.

I just confirmed that on the GoPro3+ Black, the 720p setting is 60 or 120fps. I chose 720 just to keep the file size a bit smaller. 960p only gives me option to have 48, 60 or 100fps.

I have to choose 1080p in order to be able to choose 30fps. My other choices at 1080 are 24, 30, 48 or 60fps.

Soooo, I'll give that a go and see what happens.
