How to display gauges on certain parts of video, not the entire video?

Hello,

how can you have the gauges show up in one part of the video, but not the entire time? When I split the video and delete the gauges from the second clip, they also disappear from the first clip! Do I have to make separate videos and splice them together in iMovie or is there a way to do it in Virb Edit?

Is there a way to show the map in the video? Just having that squiggly track line in somewhat pointless. I'm also having issues deleting the track line in one video.

I'm new to Garmin Virb Edit and have not been able to find any official documentation on how to use it. I'm still confused about the GPS data overlay: what is the difference between .gpx and .fit files?
I also can not find the *.fit files. Where are they located on a Mac?

My setup is a Virb Elite and Virb Edit 2.4 on iMac running Maverick. Any help is appreciated, I would like to start a "How to" thread (like the Windows guys) once I learn how to use the software.

I only have the windows version, but it should be the same.

    Go to edit the movie.
    Select a clip.
In the lower right corner there are two rows of buttons.
The top row : Adjust Replace Remove
The second row only has one button: Data Overlays
When data overlays is active, the button has a different background color (with me it's a light green), when it's not active the background of the button is the same as the surroundings.
Default overlays is active for all the clips.
If you don't want to have an overlay on a clip, press the Data Overlays button to deactivate it.

There is no manual yet, Virb Edit is still much being developed and things might change.
Last mayor change was that changing of the gauges on the overlays could be done by the user.
I've made some "How to" posts to help other users, they are in the windows section. https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?75263-How-To
Some are older (but might still work), some apply to the windows 2.4.0 version.

When the clip is copied from your VIRB, the video goes in the dir you specified in "settings".
In the database in RawMovies VIRB Edit makes a directory with a name like this "0bb70286-b960-4997-8523-fe76526d2f44".
In this dir all information of this clip is stored. You can use the thumbnail in this directory to identify the stored clip.
The GPX of the clip is stored here as "virb-track.gpx" when you attached another track to this clip it's stored as track.gpx (it might have some other use too). The "video.xml" contains information about where to find the clip.
In the database is also a directory called "FIT" it has a sub-directory with the .FIT files, probably also the one you're looking for.

On windows the database can be found here: "C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\VIRB Edit\Database\2\"
For where it is on mac's others might help you out. (I believe it is already somewhere in the mac section)

The VIRB starts making the FIT when it powered ON and stops when it's powered OFF. One session results in one .FIT
If the VIRB locks up your entire FIT is lost. Many have complained about this. I've done a feature request to the hardware guys (they are not on this forum, the link is in FALAGAR's signature) still no responce although they claim to do so in 3 days...
  • For Mac, the folder is: "/Users/{username}/Library/Application Support/Garmin/VIRB Edit/Database/"
  • I do not have that folder in Mavericks.

Library folders are hidden by default in OS X. In Finder press SHIFT-COMMAND-G for the "Go to Folder" prompt, then type ~/Library/Application Support/Garmin to go to that folder. (~ is the same as /Users/{current user})
  • This doesn't seem to work for me- also trying to have the overlays not appear on a particular clip, but appear on the other clips in a movie. I don't find the option to "Hide GPS Overlay" on a clip. Any help appreciated. Also using Virb Edit ver 2.4.0 on OS X 10.9.2 .

AJKIENLE has posted a very comprehensive set of directions here (thanks!), but I'd like to note that in the English localization the button you'll be clicking will say "Hide Data Overlay" or "Show Data Overlay".
